Superman (summary)

The character of Superman was developed in the 1940s and was put on television by the 1950s. He was always known for defending ‘Truth, Justice and the American Way’. However, it is little known that Superman is a Canadian creation. Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel, the cartoonists behind Superman were only 17 years old at the time. Although, in all fairness, they were living in Cleveland, they are Toronto born. Novelist Mordecai Richler boasts that he’s the perfect expression of Canada: amazing strength, speed and powers hidden under a bland disguise, that of Clark Kent. Still, Superman/Clark Kent is known as an American figure, despite his quintessentially Canadian personality.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream (persuasive)

I believe that the play ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ should be taught in schools. I believe this because, firstly, it gives students a better understanding of the English language, its roots and it helps pronunciation. A lot of the language that Shakespeare uses is less developed than our current variation on English so it gives a better sense of the Latin roots and where our current words are derived from.
