Another story
A strange day had been had. The mutations had increased since that demonic machine had been activated. Few knew its origins, besides the builders. How better to enslave a race then by making it reliant on its tools and then turning the tools against those they helped? Humans. Such weak creatures.
Even in the eternal day wrought by the alien technologies, their lights in orbit around Earth, I could tell it was getting late. Since the throne was cast to Earth, the instances of carnal acts had increased dramatically. Bodies were strewn over my front yard as always. It had been a feast for a few. Somehow, I had remained unaffected, as had those who kept close contact with me. The world so lonely. I couldn’t eat, not that I needed to any more. Some things are best left unexplained though.
I retired to my bed and closed my eyes and my ears. Trying to escape the images that assaulted me each day. The death, the pain, the constant screaming. While I was protected, I could feel my body failing. In my short life, I had aged so severely, so quickly. Pain ravaged me every moment, but I couldn’t let people know, especially those close to me. It wasn’t fair. I needed to find a way to fix the problems, faster than ever. If I died with duty incomplete… what then? My body shuddered as tears slipped from my eyes. I felt her arms around me, bringing me back to peace. Such kindness. It filled me with warmth and light that I needed in the cold ,dark world. It seemed all I did was blink, but my clock told me eight hours had passed. Time for another day.
I bid my family farewell as I did everyday, but the foreboding feeling grew quite strong. I stepped out, then stepped back. The guardian of the threshold knew what was happening. It came to sit upon my shoulder and I knew today I was not to leave. I took my place in the loungeroom amongst my family and led them in prayer and meditation. The mutations had caused the churches to be taken in ways thought impossible. Demons had sprung from idols, no church was untouched. As people sought solace, they were taken in possession and became more beast like. Orgies would last weeks. Those who died from exhaustion were consumed. The flesh, torn from their bones and consumed as if it were fruit and they had never eaten before. I was unlucky enough to have witnessed such an event, even now the image was as strong as it was when I saw it.
Time jumped, skipped and leapt rapidly. It was accelerating to the infinite point.Only a handful of people could feel it, and of those, most had been taken.I rose from the meditation and left the house. I couldn’t say goodbye, unless I was coming back. Maybe I just had a Jesus complex and wanted to sacrifice myself for the sake of the world, or maybe I was divinely chose to save everything. Either way, I would soon find out. Hopefully my family would remember me when I was gone, but at the same time, I hoped they would just forget me as I would forget myself.
I went down to the garage where my trusty little companion awaited me. I was still unsure whether Sparkle was a good name for such a fierce lion, but that was his name. I saddled up, and we were off. With incredible speed, we made our way to the train station, not that trains ran any more. It was just the easiest way to get to the city, by following the tracks. As the world went by in a blur, I thought at how strange it all looked without a shadow. The First Light seemed to be afraid of the darkness he cast. I had heard what he was once called, that he was the first created, an Archangel by the name of Lucifer. Of the eight Archangels, he was the only one who rebelled. Most beautiful and loved so much. It was not my place to judge though. I was here for action. I asked Sparkle to speed up as time was short and we went through the sound barrier.
As Sparkle slowed to a stop, it appeared we were in the city. No longer a bustling metropolis, the streets were empty and there was a nervous stillness to the whole place. Distant gun fights and screams of agony and pleasure rang through the silence almost constantly. The wind didn’t blow and there were no animals. The feelings of isolation and being watched disrupted the senses, drove madness into the mind like a pike. Sparkle collapsed from exhaustion, and I didn’t blame him. Such a feat was more than I could have asked of him, and he still did it. Although I would have preferred not to leave him, I had no choice at the moment. I prayed for his lasting protection and moved towards the glowing tower. Always illuminated, the Nemesis Weapon Organisation tower seemed to pulse with dark energies, even before this all started.
I entered the tower and found eyes on all the walls. No alarm sounded as I walked the relentless halls. Not a room, not a door, not anything apart from a corridor. I got to the end where a slight silver door slid open, revealing an elevator. The only button in this elevator was a strange sign. It was similar to infinity, but at the same time, completely different. Curiosity overrode common sense and I pushed the button. Slammed against the floor as the elevator shot up, it felt as if my bones had finally snapped. The doors opened again and I was at the feet of what appeared to be a large man, draped in white with large feathered wings on his back. He wore the signs of loneliness and despair and filled the air with hate. His eyes had no soul, only a deep darkness I felt myself falling into. With barely the wave of his hand, he lifted me up and put me in a chair.
Fear overtook my body, trembling muscles, pumping adrenaline. I couldn’t move, couldn’t speak, couldn’t stop anything. Sitting across from me, he spoke with a seductive voice, so soft and sweet, as if my ears had never felt a bad sound. I melted and dissolved into his words and entered another place within myself. Here I saw what I was. Nothing but a beast. Cold and alone, I was the metamorphosis made whole, what would come. Hiding behind a pious mask, I was nothing but what I made myself believe I was. Towards me, there was nothing but hate and despair. I was single handedly destroying the world. A knife fell before me and made its way to my right hand. As I lifted it to my wrist, my body still trembled. The kiss of steel made me feel so warm, and I prayed to be forgiven for everything I was. The voice echoed in my head again. God hated me and it was my time to die. I prayed harder than before and tears fell from my eyes again. I didn’t know what I was, or where I was going, but I was not for this world. As I blacked out, there was no pain, just the chains bringing me to my doom.
I woke again, somehow. A bandage on my wrist, I removed it to see deep, horrid scars. It seemed dark. I went to the window to see a half caste moon. I searched for a knife, I was meant to be dead. A nurse walked in and asked me what I was doing up at this time of night. I didn’t recognise her. She stepped outside and I heard her say something about another episode and an alternate reality. Two large brutish men came in and held me to the bed as I was tied down. A large painful needle was forced into my leg, the world blurred and I went to sleep. Hoping to dream, praying to die. What had I become?
