I just found out that this guy I really like is thinking of trying marijuana.

We were talking today and we were kind of joking around about that. I told him how I haven’t ever tried it mainly because I think it is pointless. I asked him if he has. He said he has been around it a lot and he almost did once. Then he was going to on Halloween but he didn’t because he was home sick in bed. I usually don’t care when people tell me they smoke pot but for some reason this is really bothering. It isn’t like I will have anything against him it’s just I guess I am almost concerned. I don’t know why it’s driving me crazy and I just can’t stop thinking about it. How can I get comfortable with the idea that my friend is going to smoke pot?

If it’s not something you want to be around, avoid it. I smoke it, and I can teach you about it, but if you don’t feel comfortable, then you shouldn’t put yourself in a situation where it could be around you often. Don’t compromise your morals.

I dated a huge stoner. But he’d been doing it a good while before I dated him. It’s one of those things you have to accept if you really like the person. Sometimes you just can’t change things about people. You can make your concern understandable to that person though and hope they’ll come around.

Just make sure you tell him not to get hooked. That changes people, fast.

well its not really your choice, or your problem in the first place. if he wants to try it, let him try it.

It’s not that I won’t feel comfortable around him I am just worried that something is going to happen.

I pretty much want to know everything you can tell me.

Well, tell me what you already know, or what you’ve been told, and I’ll fill in the rest.

I don’t know much really…I mainly know that you can get high off of it, it’s usually pretty cheap and fairly easy to use.

Well, I’ll go slow then, because it seems like it’s pretty new to you, and I want you to be able to ask question.

For starters, it’s a plant. Called cannabis, pot, marijuana, weed, or any other number of code names, it can grow just about anywhere, and is pretty easy to grow if you know some basics about plants and pollination. Depending on the potency of the strain, the buds of the plant contain high amounts of a chemical called THC, this chemical reacts with cannabonoid receptors in the brain, little spots that ONLY react with the chemicals in pot. That’s what gets you ‘high’. Now, the high itself is often misrepresented. Before I go on, I’ll ask what you’ve heard about how the high feels/the effects it can have, as well as ask any questions you might have from what I’ve said so far.

Almost every person I’ve met has at least tried pot, it’s not harmful short-term, but long-term effects are not so pleasant. Anxiety, depression, deterioration of memory, my mom and dad are potheads and they are so stupid, dumber than anyone i’ve ever met.

For a couple years, it’s not going to do much damage, nor will casual use. Use it for life, and you’ll be another burn out.

Definitely what I meant about getting hooked. I mean addiction of any sort can be harmful after too long, but that’s really easy to get attached to. It can easily and very quickly become a lifestyle.

As for addiction, it’s not quite so black-and-white. Yes, some people will start doing it and never stop. These people are not the majority. THC is not addictive. In fact, none of the chemicals in pot are addictive. Some people just have so much fun on it, that they refuse to stop. This isn’t an addiction, it’s a dependency. One that’s entirely psychological, but still nothing irreversible or hazardous. If you rode your favorite roller coaster every day and had a blast, and then someone asked you to stop… you wouldn’t want to, would you? That’s how it is with the dependent stoners… but they tend to have weak-wills anyway. If not pot, they’d go for something damaging, like cigarettes or alcohol.

In other words, pot is harmless, unless you’re already an idiot. Nearly every post and reply I’ve made on this site, as well as in this post, has been made while I’ve been smoking, with the exceptions of the months I quit for work or school.

Yes, I’m sorry if I made the addiction bit come across as a nicotine-like deal. It’s not like that at all, I’ve just known many who got addicted literally to the feel of it, and have issues with stopping even though it interferes with their life in a rather drastic manner.

As I said, I’m not denying that this happens, but it is a matter of the PERSON, not the plant in this matter. If you have any sort of willpower, it’s not difficult to stop smoking pot if you have to. To use the roller coaster analogy again, it may suck to walk out of the amusement park, but it’s not hard.

Well, I’m one of those strange people who like to study a substance before they put it in their body. That, and I’ve been smoking heavily on and off for years, so I’ve picked up quite a bit.
