You could try a straightforward IM saying “Hi, I’m … I sent you an email but didn’t get a response. If you would like to chat, feel free to contact me”.

If he doesn’t, he clearly isn’t interested.

Well I know I should I’m just super curious to why he never responded back! And he’s cute, It’s really hard finding a guy that is cute that is actually GAY. Or a GAY guy in general, I go to school that has all straight people Ya! for me. :( it’s just that I never had a boyfriend and only started coming out since May of 2008. I’m 20yrs old and never had anyone special for me :(

You will find someone special one day. Consider how few people actually end up committed permanently to people from their schooldays, be they straight or gay. Your soul-mate is out there somewhere!
