life help: My ex broke up with me 4 months ago. - Help.com

My ex broke up with me 4 months ago.

He broke my heart….we were together for a year and a half, he broke up with me out of the blew and then a month later met someone new and is now in a relationship with her. Blah blah blah, whatever, it stinks but what are you going to do!
Anyway, when he broke up with me, I asked him for a sweatshirt of mine that I had left at his place…he responded that he threw it out and couldn’t give it back to me. Well 4 months later, I get a text from him saying he has my sweatshirt, he didn’t throw it out afterall, and do I want it back?
Is it just me or is this a little weird? I’ve tried my best to stay away from him and to move on and not have him in my life anymore. He still has his new girlfriend. I just don’t understand why he is bothering me with such a silly stupid thing after this much time has gone past. Why would he do this?

He probably wants to see what’s up or if you are okay (lol)..don’t let him suck you in unless you really love him and you absolutely should not if he still has this other girl..he cannot have his cake and eat it too, ya know? Men….ugggghhhhhhhhh.

Maybe he’s feeling some sort of guilt, or reaching for something that he lost, or maybe he does just want to give back the sweatshirt and isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to tact and timing.

Whatever the case may be (and I can’t know what it is, just as I’ll never know what he or you really look like) my advice would be to avoid contact if you feel it may be difficult for you, interrupt the healing of the wounds, etc. Just tell him you don’t want it back, put a period at the end of that sentence, and move on with your life to bigger, better, happier things.

Maybe he thinks you still want it back.

I don’t know why he would do something like this…but don’t text him back or call…he probably just wants to see how you are living your life…maybe something is going wrong in the relationship and he wants you back…maybe he just feels guilty…or maybe he just wants to **** with your head…there are so many things it could be and you will never know the real reason…but be strong and don’t contact him…I know its hard but you deserve better…he left you…and you should want to be with someone who wants to be with you…

Some like their cake and eat it. He may think he could have you back at any time. This might be a test, I don’t know. If you want this sweatshirt so bad, tell him to give it to a mutual friend, or mail it. I wouldn’t go to get it.He made his choice and he is in a new relationship.Clothes are replaceable, just not worth the possible game playing in my book.

I think you need to move on and find new things to think about.

As for the sweatshirt, you can tell him to pop it in the mail, tell him to keep it, tell him to throw it out, tell him to give it to the Salvation Army, or tell him to fXXk off.

The sweatshirt isn’t the issue here. The issue is that you are hanging on his every word and looking for mysterious meanings in the most mundane conversations.

Don’t play those games.

He’s gone. He’s with someone else. Whether he is thinking about you or not is no longer an issue. He dumped you, and you need to move on.

Sometimes a sweatshirt is just a sweatshirt. But if this IS an attempt to recapture your attention, don’t bite.
