im screwed.

things keep getting worse.
yesterday i found out that one of the two guys i like, mason, asked out one of my best friends. only like 3 of my friends knew i liked him, including the other guy i like, joe, which is best friends with him. and i saw them together all day yesterday at school. he had his arm around her and all that. i didn’t know that he liked her because he texted me nonstop and flirted with me a lot. i figured out ill get over it. i like another guy ill forget bout mason. well joe knows i like him and 2 weeks ago my friend told him i liked him, but he said he already knew and that he only likes me as a friend. anyways, there’s no chance with joe.
my parents told me that i’d have to quit or take a break from horse back riding because it is expensive and we cant afford it because they both are in construction and there’s been barely any work, and my dad owns his own business and theres been nothing. so i told them id ask the owner if i could become a working student at the barn because one of my friends rode there and said you could work and get free lessons. so i asked the owner and turns out that working students still have to pay but by working they get extra riding time. this made me upset because i’m getting so much better. and theres this pony there that im completely in love with. shes the sweetest pony and she only likes certain people. im one of those few. i ride her in my lessons and were such a great pair. her owner gave her to the barn so she could get a new horse and she was wicked depressed from that. i dont want to stop riding, and because i dont want her to be depressed again. so i told my parents i would find a job. the only problem is that i cant find one. i need one in my town. and i cant find one. ive tried everything, every one ive found you have to be 16, 18. or older. i cant wait that long. i need one now that pays minimum 250 a month. which for my age, and experience is going to be hard to find.

I’m sorry you have to give up riding for now :( Can you work at the stable even if you aren’t a student? The people there may be able to help you get a job if they know you want to come back and take this seriously. Or you could check into some other stables, like on private or small farms, and see if they need an extra stable hand. Don’t give up on your dream; I’m sure your parents really wish they could keep giving you the lessons. There may be someone willing to give you a break if you look hard enough. As far as a job for someone under 16, that will be tough. My first job was at my school, poke around to see if they have any paying positions. I worked as a cashier in my lunch room.

they only have working students. the only people that work at the barn are the 2 instructors and the guy that takes care of the horseshoes and stuff. my school doesnt let freshman handle money at anything like fundraisers, community service, etc.
im going to talk to my dad and see if he can ask a couple of his friends that have barns if they need a hand around the barn. i just hope so. i would give up all my other sports and everything to work to keep riding. even the thought of quiting makes me cry. it means so much to me

How about babysitting? Catsitting? Dogsitting/walking?

But take just a moment and put yourself in your parents’ shoes. This is the worst economy since the Great Depression of the 1930s. It would not be right to pressure them about a “want” when they have so many “needs” to juggle, and less money to help juggle them.

It’s getting tough out there. Do all you can to help. Be part of the solution–not part of the problem!

I feel your enthusiasm for riding even from here. I say search more and don’t give up if it truly makes you happy.

Well, working around other barns may not connect you with “your” pony but sounds like a good idea. It would keep you among horses, and it would be strange if you could not take a ride at occations in those places. You would also not need 250 box for it, any payment would come in handy.

…and btw, this “depression” sucks!
Things go up and things go down. So does the market, but akmost entirely by “soft” parameters.
Stuff is no longer valued by substance or solids, but by expectations. Therefore, when the media cries “doom’s day”, it will move us towards doom’s day.
It consequently became a self-spiralling downwards development just as the Great Depression did. If most people stopped reading papers and closed their TV’s, there wouldn’t be any depression.

im not arguing with my parents about this though. i told them i understand. i suggested the working student thing but i thought it was different. and i told them i would get a job. im just having trouble finding one. my instructor wouldnt be able to offer me a job. i have to talk to the owner this week. id feel better about working and paying for my own lessons. it would make me feel more responsible. i asked my mom what she thought of me asking my dad to call his friend that has a couple horses. he hasnt ridden them in a couple years. so i was guna ask if i would get paid if i could tame them again. and make them ride-able. my mom said that wouldnt work because he prob wouldnt want to pay. so i think sometime this week im going down to stop and shop down the street from my house and explain to them. ill do anything for a job. my friend works there so hopefully he could put in a good word for me. its just riding is so important to me. ive only been riding for 11 months. but it literally is my life.

i know exactly how you feel, do you know much about re schooling?, you dont have to get money from your dads friend, you could ride his horses, im sure he would appreciate it…
but if you wanted to do that you would need time and patience

you dont need to , if you can reschool these horses and make them ridebale then you dont have to stop riding forever, just while you reschool them, horse life isnt all about the riding, it will also give you the chance to properly bond with the horses too

i know i need to ride at my barn though. like leaving there would be like leaving my house forever. like i said though. the pony i ride, Ghost. shes a sweet pony. no one likes riding her because you have to ride her for like 2 months for her to understand you and vise versa. im one of the only people she likes. no one can go up to her and pet her. i walk up to her pet her, kiss her head, and hug her and she nuzzles me. that pony changed my life.

i know. its just they put me on a different horse for about 2 weeks to a month and her personality changed. she wouldnt let me pet her. she was mad at me. like we read each others minds practically. i dont have to kick or use a crop with her. i just click my tongue and she knows what to do. every one else doesnt understand her though. Every time i get on that saddle riding her. my problems are left behind in the dust. my mind is cleared and im happy again. the pony is a miracle. and im in love with her. if i had the money i would buy her from the barn in a heartbeat. but as you can tell. i cant afford to. maybe sumday i wll.
