Tips for teenagers:
Life will be better after high school.
You do not love your boyfriend of 2 weeks.
You do not love your crush of 2 years.
If you kill yourself you won’t know whether or not you taught the person you’re mad at a lesson.
Your parents, for the most part, are not your enemies. You are a huge pain right now.
Your band probably isn’t going to make it.
Pro football probably isn’t going to work out.
You don’t have to go to college, but you can be a 50 year old dishwasher.
You are very dramatic and when you get really mad adults have to try really hard not to laugh.
Looks not only fade but were never as important as they seemed to begin with.
Don’t swear. You are not doing it well and it makes you seem even younger and less mature then you are.
You aren’t going to marry your high school boyfriend or girlfriend.
If you do marry them, you will get divorced.
Don’t have any babies, married or not.
Don’t get into debt. You don’t need the newest version of every phone and game consule that is made.
No pair of shoes is worth more than $100, max.
You do not have to look like your favorite celebrity or model to be attractive.
Girls, get an honest persons opinion before you leave the house in makeup.
Guys, there is such a thing as too much cologne/hair gel.
If you want a tattoo really bad take the few years to think about it. And don’t make it anyone’s name.
Your friend’s older brother’s college roommate is not a qualified tattoo artist.
That guy/girl you like who is 5-10 years older than you has some boundary issues if they want to date you.
That guy/girl who really loves you and wants to show you physically how he/she feels about you is lying to get into your pants.
Going to prison is not as cool as you think it is.
You will look back at yourself in a few years and wonder what you were thinking and how anyone put up with you.
We are sick of you but love you anyway.
If anyone has any tips to add please post them. If any angry teens want to tell me how wrong I am you will just prove my point.

My parents do laugh when i get mad at them… =/
The last one pretty much covers me =P
Heh…
If you want to drink or try drugs, fine, but wait until you’re out of school and have a job where you don’t have to worry about drug tests. Se if you still want to, then.
Amen to the HS thing. HS kids think HS is the end of the world… Relax. Things take an uphill swing in college =).
D*mn! My ‘e’ ran away! come back, ‘e’!

Ah, there you are.
You share your parents DNA. Remember that when you’re wondering how come they are such idiots….
And holding the steering wheel with your knees while texting on the cell doesn’t always work :-)

Hehe… I like that one… oh and also, teens, your parents do understand what you’re going through.
Thanks for this post. i wish i would have seen these things.
id like to add:
-don’t talk about every flaw you see in someone. you might end up just like them. fat with hairy moles everywhere…
-dont drive with friends in the car. ever.
-respect your elders…their wisdom is precious.
love yall good night
Hah, quite generalized towards the hysterical girl.. I laughed out loud reading, ‘You are very dramatic and when you get really mad adults have to try really hard not to laugh.’ That is my little sister all over.
Just remember that dirty plate you put in the cupboard, just may be yours next meal time :D
Great post Veg lol
great post..
i do have to say that for most people college is a mist, but i do know my share of people who didnt go to college and are very successfull..
but other than that awesome post and everything is very much correct..
by the way, life is better after high school..
I think my biggest problem in high school was wishing people would grow up.

For much this is completely true, veg_head, but I have to say, my parents certainly did not understand what I was going through in relation to clinical depression and body dysmorphia. Though, that is an isolated sort of situation, and I suppose that you are talking about the average, healthy teenager.
^ Good point Raven.

not always, but sometimes.. =) just saying..
I must be ahead of the game, I don’t have to worry about most of the things on this list.

Ah, yes, that is a good point. Some parents can be exceptionally unaware of what a kid is going through…
here’s one more teens it does hurt your parent’s feelings when you say you hate them; especailly when it’s because they won’t drive you to the mall or let you
date that 5-10 years older person I mentioned earlier.
Ive written on posts scores of times, this teen life will one day end, and everything will be good, None of them believe me of course, but yep all that depression and hormonal swings will be laid to rest, and you will have bigger and better problems :D lol, kidding :P
I disagree with the part about no shoes ever being worth over $100. Danskos ARE worth of $100 because they are well made for the person who works on their feet all day long. Hairdressers, waitresses, cashiers, and others who I know swear by them because nothing is worse than going home after eight hours on your feet and not even being able to enjoy your time off because your feet hurt so bad. They’re not trendy or sexy, but they go great with most work type clothing from casual to semi-dressy and they last for eons, so they’re worth every penny.
I wear birkinstocks for comfiness… worth every penny too :)
they were shamefully expensive, I forgot to add.
dont think that running away will sovle problems. it only worries eveyone who loves you. and will probably make the situation worse.
I would disagree about the whole not marrying your high school girlfriend or boyfriend. I know many instances where this has worked out. My parents for example.

As long as your studying what you want and pursuing something your interested in…..
The college think is a good point, I don’t think my dad (who supported the family) did either! I had to edit the part about tattoos; no names! Ever!

YES! never tattoo the name of some one who might not be in your life for longer than 3 months..
Yea, the tattoo of someones name is a sure deal breaker. Its like a curse.

Well, er, I have to disagree with this also. Memorial tattoos of, say, your own child who died can include their name. That’s something really special.

Thats different. Just no names of someone you are in a relationship with.

true.. but in the means of someone in a relationship, girlfriend boyfriend status, that isnt as special as the name of your own child, or the memory of someone..
Ah, he memorial tattoo, another notable exception. But as far as “party naked” or “(insert favorite teenageband) rocks forever” goes I have to put my foot down :)
How bout a reminder to teens that you don’t have to decide what you’re going to do for the rest of your life in high school. Big problem in my old high school.

but a shirt is fine..no tattoos!
LOL sorry Nxy and miss.cari, the foot is down! Now go to your rooms and do your homework, don’t slam the door and leave that thermostat turned down! You can wear a sweater if you’re cold… ;)
And turn down that darn music…
seriously though, the “I HATE YOU” thing is a no no..its certainly not going to get you what you want..
miss.cari wrote:
i hate you!
*sniffle* yeah, it’s a mean one for parents… when I was little I made my mom cry with that one :( I still feel guilty
I don’t think that I have ever said I hate you to my parents. Good for me. I guess I am quite frustrated with them right now though.

haha oh no. you must have been an angry child. ive never said that to my parents. im pretty glad too..i dont i could every forgive myself if i did..
I was a quietly angry little girl… my mom crying was way worse than being grounded or anything though. Much more lasting punishment. She could bring that up today if she wanted to guilt me into something and it would work… I LOVE YOU MOMMY!
I have to go get to work and call my mom and wake her up to tell her I’m sorry (and confuse her very deeply since she won’t know what I’m talking about) so you be good, no candy this late, and don’t stare at the screen too long or it will rot your eyes!
There’s a few things I disagree with on this list, but much more that I applaud, so it overshadows.
As far as the “I hate you” goes…I said it once to my mom when I was 12, and unfortunately I meant it. I still do.
your so **** right… i have so many friends that think theyre in love, im like get a grip.. i respect you…
another one,
Smoking isnt cool it just proves your into sucking things.

Darn, I should quit then. Even the thought of sucking things repulses me. Lol.

“Your friend’s older brother’s college roommate is not a qualified tattoo artist.”
That’s kinda funny, because my friend has a brother who has a friend who supposidly can tattoo teens without parents permission. and she wants me to get one.
lmao

It’s not impossible. Just too stupid to gamble on. The odds against it working are astronomical.
