Ummm… what?

An ion is when an atom becomes positive or negatively charged. Atoms by definition are neutral, so when they become + or - they are an ion. It becomes an ion by losing or gaining electrons.
As for Barium, it has two valence electrons, so I guess it becomes a negatively charged Ion.
Yeah. I think I just read the question wrong… I had just finished reading about lattice energy’s relation to ionic bonds, and I was still processing that stuff when I moved onto the next question. Meaning I read ‘Ionic Bond’ instead of just ‘Ion’. I was confused…
ionic bond is when one gives a electron, one receives one, now one is -, one +, they attract each other and bond.
You would need four Barium atoms to reach an octet, right?

I think so.
I’ve just started learning this stuff in class, odd, as I am in a biology class.
Hmmm… I wonder what that has to do with boilogy… You should ask your teacher.
What grade are you in, Ikari?

Well, we are learning it as part of bio-chemistry…
9th, American Grade system.
You’re learning faster than I was. Are you doing Bio-chem as a part of Integrated Science 9, or is that the whole class?

It’s just one chapter of biology class. We also go into evolution and other stuff.
We didn’t do that last year. We did like four sections of science. I think it was enviornmental science, chem, biology, and something else…
It might be the same thing you’re doing, I can’t remember.
What do you know about salt compounds?

Nothing at all really.
Gah… curses. Chem is evil.

But without it we’d never have silly putty.
salt is found when reaction between a aside and base for example Na+oH
Na+CL
