Calling is typically better because the manager who runs applications is not always in the store.

Showing up in person leaves better tracks for them but called makes sure who you want to talk is going to be there.
Try calling first and asking what time the manager will be there and during those hours she/he will be then go and when you show up

“can I speak with (manager)” when they show up “Hello (their name) I was just checking if the position of (position name) is still available” If yes “Oh, did you get a chance to review my application/resume? or are you still reviewing them?” if they haven’t seen it: “Well when you get a chance to look at it you can contact me for any more information that might be requested”
