i don’t believe in ghosts.
well i didn’t used to. (this sounds like a cheap horror movie, so be prepared to be sceptical; even as a witness to these events, i find myself desperately clinging to ‘it can’t be real’ merely because it is not generally accepted that ghosts exist).
well. the figure of a young, pale-skinned, dark-haired girl of about seven or eight, wearing a white dress, has been sighted countless times in the house of a friend of mine, most commonly in the bathroom. she is sitting in the bath the majority of the time; she also walks past doors, peers around doors and has appeared once swimming alongside my friends in the pool… they noticed an extra person swimming with them underwater, but there was no one else there.
this one time (when i didn’t believe in ghosts) we went ghostbusing. to sum up the single most terrifying night of my life, i was walking past the bathroom when something dripped onto my shoulder; a phlegmy substance. someone mentioned ectoplasm, but i’m not so sure. that one could be explained by the sneeze of someone behind me… even though no one sneezed on coughed or anything of the like.
next the sensor light went off outside; again this can easily be explained, a cat walking too close, a manlfunction- but after that, it started to get really creepy.
we placed a phone in the bathtub, called it with another and answered the bathtub phone (if that makes sense), so we had a walkie-talkie situation going on. we turned off all the lights in the house, retreated to a room ages away, crouched down together and started talking to our ghost. at first nothing happened… oh i am getting chills writing this. okay.
then, we heard a sort of breathing coming from the phone. now i can tell you that there was no one else in the house, garenteed. all four of us were there, and equally terrified. then, me and the boy next to me heard a sort of hissing, screaming sound right in our ears; we both jumped at the same second; the others hadn’t heard anything. i’m not sure if this has anything to do with it, but i was the only girl there and that boy was the youngest, so maybe that had something to do with it…
and then there was the screaming. echoing, shrill banshee screams, undulating and rolling and getting louder, emitting from the phone. it was… the most i>evil /i> sound i’ve ever heard, and by this point i was hyperventilating. we switched off the phone, and for half an hour just hugged each other in the dark. then, against my will, the other three decided they wanted to try again. they went back to the bathroom, and set up the phones again.
all four of us went back to our same position. one of the boys said into the phone, if you’re there, give us a sign. (and this, more than anything, cannot be explained). there was a dull ceramic clunk. we thought it a coincedence. but whenever this boy spoke, the same thud would emit from the phone, eventually building up to a continuous, unbearably loud thudding. we hung up abruptly, and the thudding immediately stopped. that night was spent cuddled as far away as possible from the bathroom. i don’t think anyone got to sleep. and maybe this is coincedence, but the very next morning my mum called me; my grandpa had died during the night.
there’s only a bit more!
a few months later, and a few weeks ago now, the house was recarpeted. the built-in wardrobe in the bedroom of my friend was pulled out, and beneath it they discovered an old square, round-cornered photograph. it featured a large family, about eight girls and three boys, with a mother, father and several aunts. all were wearing darker colours; the girl in the middle, the youngest-looking, was wearing a white dress. she looked about seven or eight, and had dark hair. she was immediately recognised as their ghost. there was nothing marked on the back, however it was clear that they were standing out the front of the house. next to the photo was a sort of advertisement thingy, advertising to win a holiday; it was heaps old, and the date on it said 1973, i think.
i can assure you that every single bit of this is true. i have seen the photo and the advertisement whatsit. i haven’t seen the ghost with my own eyes; i avoid the bathroom at all costs, and run past it with my eyes closed when i have to walk past it.
so give me your opinion; what’s going on here?
