DARK REFLECTIONS OF A LOST SOUL
Author: juhur
The silent darkness surrounded the space around her, even with eyes wide open. Her thoughts echoed in horror of the terminal mistake that even the repetitious screams of sorry, could not erase. Suddenly, a spectrum of light, forming a pinnacle through her dark tortured soul appeared. Was it the answer to her agony or more torment?
With a slow curious anticipation of relief, she gazed into the light. There lay her frail white body, encased in a beautiful pink puffed silk. Her long shining blond hair framing the lovely overly made up face, with hands perfectly set across a white taffeta dress.
In a blink of an eye, the circular spectrum of light changed to an unexpected more morbid view. Tears flowed from her shadowed eyes as she froze, watching all the people she loved, huddled close to the encasement of her past form.
Breathless, she reached into the light, trying to comfort the mourning faces she longed to touch. Quietly and just as quick as it came the light fades back into the dismal void. Alone, once again, the chilling darkness consumes her. Voices of the familiar faces rang out in the shadows, calling her name. Multiple streams of faceless noise rushed through her soul, begging, Harmony come home.
Harmony sank back into the screams of her own guilt, still confused as to why and what she had done. Why had she not seen then, what she in idle sorrow, was now, a painful reality. What is this lonely dark existence that encompasses her being? Will she be doomed to this shadowy transparent form? Can she ever touch the tearful faces of the ones she loved and longed to see? Unanswered questions stab at her, as she drowns in her own darkness.
Before the infinite consumption of her soul takes place the pinnacle darts through her. The terror of the circular light transforms. The spectrum forms a different feeling this time. Harmony, unable to keep her curious eyes from focusing on the prevailing scene, once again gazed into the light.
Barely recognizing the face that appears, she stares on. Who is that young girl and why is she crying? The girl feels so familiar. Then in a sudden shock, like a bolt of electricity, it becomes clear. Oh Heather, can’t you feel my sorrow? She reaches forward, extending her hand into the circle trying to comfort the young girl. Can you feel the longing to be there with you, to hug away whatever is hurting you? Abruptly, the light fades.
NO! WAIT! Please Come back, she cried out, wanting oh so bad to help. Then the realization of the affect of what she had done crashed in on her. Heather’s tearful pain had been caused by the one she loved so dearly. Wanting to be just like her big sister, her idol was gone.
The pain that raced through her being was unbearable. Harmony slumped into the darkness appearing nonexistent. Could she ever regain enough of herself to gaze into the light again, and eventually rise from this dark consumption? The quiet was overbearing.
A Sudden scream broke the silence. Harmony splashed out from the pool of darkness. The circled formed as she regained her thoughts. She peered anxiously into the colorful spectrum. Laughter rang out all around her, echoing joyously. Did they forget about me, so soon? Again, she could not discern the faces in the bright luminous circle. The screaming came from children dancing and singing around the most beautiful tree she had ever seen. The lights were a colorful array, filling her dark soul with an unfamiliar warmth. Heather is that you? It looks like you. Why do you look so old? Questions swarmed through her, with a harsh sting, for each unknown answer.
Forced by her own curiosity, she lunged with all her being into the brilliance of the light. She extended her hand forward, this time to her amazement, she felt the cold sweat of flesh entwine in her fingers. Breathless, she returned the warm smile from her loving sister. This is the feeling she had longed for. This was the miracle she remembered, before whatever happened to put her where ever she was.
There can be no better state of being, than what she felt at that moment. The guilt was gone, she flashed on the accident. I love you too, she whispered as she began to rise. We will never forget you Harmony, she heard as she was consumed into the peaceful light.
