I want to start swimming but i dont know where to start

I use to swim when i was younger but i havent done it in a long time. Im not in the best shape but im not huge. I want to do it to relieve stress and lose weight. I cant play any sports due to my hip problem so this will be a great way to lose weight for me. Another question i have is about swim caps. Do they only cause you to swim faster or do they also prevent your hair from getting wet?

YMCA. The swim caps will help keep your hair dry if put on correctly.
But it won’t stay completely dry.

Start in the shallow end. Teach yourself how to swim all over again.
