HAIR BLEACH DISASTER PLEASE HELP!
I tried to put blonde hightlights in, and they turned orangey blonde, so for some stupid reason I thought if I bleached my whole head and re-dyed it it would work. It DID NOT! I bleached it, then dyed it and then dyed it again. It is still very orangey. How can I get it blonde? Will it just fall out if I bleach it again? Here was how it went. Bleach, tehn ash blonde to tone (which went grey) then I put dark golden blonde on it which turned it orangey again. Any advice? This all went down about 12 hours ago.

Where were you?

What kind of bleach did you use. You normally need to use about 40% peroxide in the mix for dark hair and leave it for about 40 minutes. If you put bleach in it again now, it will probably make your hair go rubbery and break off, it will be too damaged. It’s a bit scary when that happens. Don’t worry, I think we’ve all done this at some stage in our lives.
You may need to put a natural brown in your hair now, to cover up the patchiness and get it back to one colour. A permanent colour over it won’t completely ruin it like another session of bleach.
Can you go to a salon ? If they could have a quick look at your hair, they will be able to tell you on the spot if your hair has been too damaged to bleach again.
I just used what the cosmetic girl gave me. I did leave it on for 40 minutes though. What if I put the ash blonde over this again… will it at least take the red tone out do you think? I really don’t want to go brown. My hair is still very soft and feels moisturized. It isn’t brittle or anything.
You really really need to get to a hairdresser, you are like the 3rd person to have done this in the last week so you are definatly not alone, but honey a girls hair is her crowning glory and you need to treat it well, get yourself a good coditioning treatment as it will start to dry out, don’t put anymore bleach on it. I really don’t think the ash blond will help out either.
i had dark brown hair - i bleached it about 5 times with loreal maxium bleach, leaving it on an hour each time - going through orange ginger yellow ,then i kept using a purple shampoo on it , to get it platinum - its called clairol shimmer lights. but dont keep it on more than 2 minutes i found as it turns ur hair purple. id do it every other shampoo and use a blonde shampoo and conditioner in-between like john frieda make. also use a leave in conditioner and an intensive conditioner and shine spray. ur hair will be mega dry and will break off - i use extensions to make it look better then u just have to keep bleaching the roots and using purple shampoo once a week. it will damage and break ur hair though, use heat protector sprays and dont brush it alot, use a bristle brush
I know this is a very old post but I’m going to respond incase anyone else comes across with similar questions. Everyone just needs to STOP using store bought bleaching kits. THEY DO NOT WORK. Sure, they will bleach a little bit but to get the desired look, you will have to bleach about once a week for 2 months. And by then, you’ll just have wasted time and money and your hair will look rather odd. Store bought bleaching kits generally don’t work on previously dyed hair, either. Go to SALLYS beauty supply(or even sallybeauty.com) and buy a very cheap product called “Beyond the Zone: On/Off Scalp Radical Bleach Kit”. It is fool proof, doesn’t smell horrible and doesn’t burn the scalp… atleast not mine. It’s about $7.00-$8.00. It will work WONDERS. I’ve been dying my hair BLACK for about 4 years and just decided to go platinum blonde. Everyone told me it would be a distaster and as I’ve done this before… I knew it wouldn’t turn out exactly as I wanted it to. But… I bought 2 kits, bleached the first day and it got sooo pale orange. I was expecting it to be darker with a lot more red but it was amazing. Then I used “mane and tail” moisturizing conditioner and left it in my hair over night.(it’s about $4.00 for a 12oz bottle and $7.00 for a 32 oz.). When I woke up my hair still felt pretty healthy so I bleached one more time. Generally I would recomment waiting atleast a week in between so that your natural oils can revive your hair but I’m a little neurotic and couldn’t wait. So, then I used a toner mixed with 20 volume developer which I also got at sallys. This is used to counteract the brassy and yellowish tones that the bleach left behind. I used Wella Color Charm #T18 White Lady(about $4.00 and the developer is about $5.00). You can also use Wella Silver Lady which I believe is #T14(this is if you desire a more “grayish” punk look). FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY. The toner will look purple or blue depending on which one of those 2 that you used. Don’t worry, it will not turn your hair purple. My hair is now perfectly platinum blonde/white.
Also, if you end up bleaching your hair and don’t like it… try to avoid going straight to brown using a box dye. You will end up with a greenish tone to the brown. Your hair needs redish tones to counteract the green effect so before going to brown, try a red/auburn brown. OR, go to a hair sylist, they might dye your hair a bright red first and then a brown over it.
Also, be careful and pay attention to what dyes you used before you bleached. If the dye contained metalic flakes (usually in dyes that cause a gradual color change)… DO NOT BLEACH OVER THIS! The chemicals in the bleach mixed with the metalic flakes will cause your hair to melt!
And no, I am not a hair stylist. All of this information is based off my own trial and error over the years. I have dyed my hair every color in the book… including perming it myself. I have also read up a lot online because I am terrified of my hair falling out. :o) So far, so good. Hope this helps!!!
omg thank you! im about to go to sally’s and buy the bleach and toner that you advised. i always wanted to go blonde. why does it have to be so hard. right now i bleached it and its very uneven orange, red, yellow, all of the above. hopefully this works!!
Actually I don’t need to go blond, but I need to go darker. So I had my hair highlighted at the salon. Hairdresser gave me caramel and blond, afterward it feel I thought it’s too blond so I went to sally and bought developer and color to put some darker streak in there. I put color in first night, saw that not enough. So next morning I added a few more brown streaks. After I rinse my hair and dried it, my hair started breaking off and it was rubbery. “Help” I’m freaking out, is my hair going to be okay. I usually get my hair highlighted every 4-6 months.
Hm your hair is fine, just use lots of conditioner is your hair and dont shampoo for atleast a week,so your hair can gain it’s natural ouils back,it needs a lil healing time.
I bleached my hair last week when it was already pretty blonde and it attained this rubbery brittle feeling to it. i simply combed and cut the dead hair out.
If you can get your hands on L’Oreal Platinium 40% (30% will not be as harsh) this has a built in conditioner so will be less harmful, then use shimmer lights after and your hair will be platinum for sure!! :)
My hair turned orange. it was dark brown, my advice

go to the salon
should have left it grey and washed it with dish soap a few times grey would fade to white or very light blonde
I know this is late but I just want to give some helpful tips. My natural hair color is dark brown I dyed it burgandy and later on added red highlights. I wanted to start over because it’s harder to achieve a color after so many processes. So I dyed it drk brown and I cut it. Well I decided to dye the front part of my head platinum blonde. It sucks because I had to strip away color that was deposited…so it took 3 tries of bleaching to remove the brown, red and orange. Now at this point my hair should have broke off. Thanks to my beautician friend she suggested products that I should use to prevent hair loss. There is a product called hask placenta you can get it at Sally’s. Another product I use to treat my hair is Aphogee 2 minute reconstructor this can also be found at Sally’s. These treatments are meant to rebuild the proteins in your hair. Ok for the ladies who have natural dark hair and want to dye your hair blonde, keep in mind bleach only strips color so you will end up with an orange/yellowish tint (I think that’s how you explain it).If you already dyed it a dark color i recommend not doing it at all…it takes a long time to strip the color out. After bleaching you need to tone it with blonde hair dye or a toner (DO NOT BY A STORE KIT!!! GET IT FROM SALLY’S)I recommend anything with a violet base or voilet/blue base and buy peroxide volume 20 or 30, I wouldn’t buy 40 it might be too strong for your already bleached hair. The dye will turn purple, it won’t dye your hair purple, it will cancel the yellow and orange in your hair. I recommend TONING your blonde hair every 2 weeks or whenever you feel like the yellow is showing too much. Toning isn’t so bad on the hair and as long as you use the products I mention your hair will stay healthy. Try not to style your hair with heat if you do use a hair heat protector product.
If you already dyed your hair a darker color please don’t try to go blonde its best if you grow out your virgin hair and start from there.
And another thing I actually like to use the Aphogee reconstructor before I bleach, dye, tone, my hair and after.
I’ve been blonde for 2 months now and my hair is still healthy and intact.
heres an idea genius, maybe next time instead of messing with your hair, leave it to a professional who is doing great work in your area ,then maybe next time you wont **** up your hair cheepo!
I went to a professional last night and had my hair bleached so I could put a nice blond color on it. I am a natural red head. My hair which was below shoulder length is now 1-2 inches from the scalp. It broke and fell out and the professional told me the fee for all over color was 100.00. I have always done my own bleaching and never had a problem- so now I paid for a problem. How stupid can I be.
i had blue hair nd no girlfriends i was in tears to my guy friends who suprising knew that i totally needed to bleach it lol now it back to normal but u gotta do it before 24hours has pasted so the dark dye doesnt have a chance to set
