Maybe because the green peppers are mild, and the red ones are hot, and the mild green peppers are more popular, so people buy more of them and the stores keep plenty in stock, but the red peppers are less popular, so the stores charge more to keep them in stock because they’re taking a bigger risk carrying them?

Red bell peppers also have a shorter shelf life. The store has to price them higher to make up for that. They do have a milder flavor than the green peppers, so I sometime buy them when I have a picky eater to feed.

They are not milder or hotter, they are actually sweet. and i buy them all the time b/c i LOVE them!!! But i wonder too, y r they so much more? They dont go bad any faster then the green ones, not that they sit around long enough to go bad lol.

Hey Guys, have you ever tried to grow a Pepper Bush yourself? A pepper plant grows up as a bush and begins to flower. Each successful flower develops into a Green Pepper.Once each Green Pepper reaches full size it can be picked and eaten but if it is left on the bush much longer it ripens into a Red Pepper. One of the reasons why Red Peppers are more expensive is that they have to be left on the plant longer which slows the plant in producing more Green (Cheaper Peppers). Many people prefer the Red Peppers as they have more flavour. If the Peppers are grown Organically they will last almost twice as long in your fridge as compared to Peppers grown with the Chemical Fertilisers. Hope this info was useful to you. Dave Ridley,Johannesburg,South Africa.
