Ooh!
ZineWiki!
If you love independent publishing, then you need to check out ZineWiki, a new project by Fall of Autumn’s Alan Lastufka (with Kate Sandler).
ZineWiki is an open-source online encyclopedia devoted to zines and independent media. It covers the history, production, distribution and culture of the small press. When you visit the site, you’re encouraged to add your own project, or contribute additional information to existing pages, or edit what’s already published.
In case you’re unfamiliar with “wiki,” it’s basically a website that anyone, anywhere can contribute to and edit at any time. (You know about Wikipedia, right?)
As it grows, it’s conceivable that ZineWiki could even act as a universal central catalog for zine librarians. Any zinester or librarian could catalog a new issue/title as it becomes available, and the result would be instantly searchable, for free, from anywhere around the globe.
If you’re a zine geek like me, that’s a mighty tasty idea.
