What kind of assignment is that? You just copy-paste other people’s stories?

Ok.. I’ll start you off.

I was in the Middle East when news of Diana’s death first broke, so I heard it before most people in UK were even awake.

The thing that bugs me to this day is that when I rang home to friends in UK at breakfast some told me not to believe the rubbish they’d push out on the news “over there” and “you can’t trust any of them… they’re all evil”. Later on, when they realised it was true, it was “see who was driving? well what do you expect!”

That afternoon.. my house was surrounded by flowers. Left in the sand for “the British lady”. Some people had walked for hours just to sit in vigil outside my porch. They brought sweets, dates and fruit for me and my family - just as they do when someone loses a relative and the family is in mourning.

The flowers on my porch never made the news. I guess no-one wants to hear about the love that gets shared around if it comes from the wrong corner of the world…
