My sister has really bad asthma?

My sister has bad asthma and the other day she had an asthma attack and my mum took her down to the hospital and they gave her a nebuliser and put her on prednisolone steroid tablets but when they listen to her chest to see if she was weezing they couldn’t haer anything they could hardly hear her breathing so i was wondering is it worse to have an asthma attack where you don’t wheeze and is that usuall not to wheeze with asthma because my sisters had all sorts of problems with her asthma and she never wheezes and that makes problems for her to because some doctors don’t understand and shes even been told that shes been putting it on and i know that’s not true so is it possible to have an asthma attack but not wheeze???

The experts say a wheeze cannot be heard without a stethescope, so they should really be doing that to check her lungs, but I don’t know enough about asthmas to help much. I’ll see what I can find out online and give you some links, though.

Okay, so the last one is most detailed, but the second one is from the Mayo Clinic, so if you like wanted to challenge the doctor’s opinions, that’d be the one to reference.

I have asthma and it is under control. I have had attacks where wheezing is not heard by the human ear but, heard under a stethescope.

There is a breathing test that the doctors can perform and they can also take a blood test that will tell them how much oxygen is in the blood. Reduced oxygen clearly indicates that the lungs are constricted. The breathing test indicates how much the person is able to exhale. It is an accurate test.

Asthma attacks come in various degrees of stress to the bronchical tubes. A full blown attach may constrict the bronchical tubes altogether. Whereas slight constriction may result in mild wheezing. Doctors have to be careful and will try to avoid a full blown attach if they can.

In some cases a person who has anxiety also has breathing problems. So if your sister is under stress she should tell her doctor. It’s important to try to control the anxiety so the breathing isn’t affected. She should tell her doctor.
While anxiety will cause shortness of breath, it does not create wheezing.

Hope this helps. A website to go to is Mayo Clinic here in the US. They have a lot of information on a host of illnesses. Good Luck
