How many words would be a good average for a full chapter in a fiction book?
I really like to write but my chapters are always like 1,000 words which I know is not enough. So I’ve been trying to think about an average but no number comes to mind, does anyone know?

i’m not sure. but i am writing a book too. what kind of book u writing? mine’s about a clairvoyant
thats a good question.
im guessin like 2500 words is a decent size. but it depends on what kinda book your writing.
and it depends how many chapters your having
I plan to write a novel and I alread have like 2554 words for the first chapter.
The main character is an assassin, but that’s all i can truely say becuase I like to keep the plot a secret.
that’s cool that’s why i didn’t say much either :) sounds interesting to me. some authors have tons of chapters that are short and some make them longer and then there are less chapters.
If it’s Dan Brown Da Vinci Code Style, it’d be about 50 words per chapter.
It doesn’t matter how long a chapter is, so long as your book is at least 75,000 words. I’ve read some novels that had chapters that weren’t even an entire page, and I’ve read novels that has chapters that were 20 to 40 pages, and I’ve read novels that varied widely. The chapter length really doesn’t matter. Just focus on writing your story and if it feels right to end a chapter at a certain place, just end it, no matter how long it is.
just forget what i said. amhp said it perfectly
Your average book is about 80,000 words. There are some chapters that are just a page for a chapter. Your chapter can include what you want it to be. My chapters are often 1,000 words to 2,000, but it’s MY chapters so it’s fine.
Some people’s chapters range from 500-4,000 words, so a chapter is just what you want it to be.

That’s not a genre. All novels are fiction. If it was not fiction, it would not be a novel.
A genre is sci-fi, romance, young adult, mystery, men’s adventure, etc.
What’s your genre?
ah, I wasn’t thinking. It’s really not jsut one genre. It is a romance but it does have a lot of action it in.

Does the romance have a happy ending? If so, I suggest that you make the book between 50,000 and 65,000 words. If it doesn’t have a happy ending, then those books are typically considered mainstream novels. They can be as many as 100,000 words, but typically no shorter than 65,000 words. Be sure you know what you’re writing before you get too far into the story. What you’re writing can impact a lot on how long your book is.
it’s a happy ending. Thank you guys. Problem solved, I’m going to close the post now.
