Ok, maybe he’s tense and needs some time to relax around you…

Also it’s likely you want a lot form him since, as you said, you’ve liked him for some time…

What can I say?

You can either give him time, or try to make him more comfortable around you…how to do that, I can’t say it, you’re the one who knows him…
