photoshop issues

alright, i download PNG files. I have to put .PNG at the end of them or it will save them as .rar. And though my Photoshop Elements 5.0 SHOULD be able to open PNG files every time i try a little window pops up saying “could not complete your request because the file-format module cannot parse the file.”
..it won’t open them!

Does anyone know why? and/or what i should do?

I am not quite sure as to how you saved them. But generally when you save a file, simply putting .mp3 or .doc won’t make it that type of file. When you save these files look for a box on the bottom that has the file type and try selecting PNG, or a Jpeg, photoshop works nicely with Jpegs.

If you’re downloading .rar files, you will need to uncompress them (they’re like .zip files). The .png files should be inside the .rar file.
