What events might cause a pond to become a forest?

I know the pond dries up, but I forgot HOW. I think it’s evaporation. But evaporation ALWAYS happens when it gets hot and not all ponds dry up obviously. But if any one here has differnet opinions please tell !!

Not all ponds dry up–if they have a source of renewable water. But many ponds–and even creeks and rivers–can dry up if there is nothing replenishing them. Earthquakes and erosion can also alter the landscape, as well as manmade activities. Then the seeds from trees, shrubs, flowers and grass settle and you can have a forest where there was once a pond. And you probably know that during the Mesozoic era, there was a large inland sea going right through what would become the US and Canada. If you go to some places in the midwest, you can see fossil coral where there is now prairie!
