Are people born with depression or clinical depression?

Or can something or several things happen that can cause you to develop it? I used to be depressed for no reason and now I still am But I also have SEVERAL reasons. Here are my symptoms:

My grades were a’s b’s now they’ve changed to d’s f’s c’s
I feel like I can do nothing to help myself
I can’t concentrate
I can’t fall asleep because there is to much going on in my head
I have had family issues my WHOLE life, no breaks, parents are finally going to get divorced.
many more

this is a huge ongoing debate- nature vs nurture. no one knows for sure- it could also be a combination. talk to someone, get some help.

Sometimes you have higher chances of developing it because it may run in the family. Also, environmental factors can contribute to all of that. I would reccommend talking to a professional about your depression because it could be an inbalance in your brain or something else.

YOur probelms sound like stress.I could be wrong so the best thing to do is see your family doctor. If its serious see a therapist. Stress is a huge issue these days, so many people are stressed to the point of depression. but it can be managed. To answer your question from my own experience and much studying on the subject of depression I say ‘yes’ we are born with it.And then it rears its ugly head when we are faced with a unforeseen tragedy or trauma, in my case it was when my husband said he was leaving.Alos shie makes a good point, it was hereditary in my family so Im sure thats another factor.does that answer your question?

I like this answer too. If this is really puzzling you maybe you could be the one to come to a conclusion of your own and share it with the world .

I had depression since I was a little child. I suspect my late father had depression too. What made it worse was the loveless childhood, poverty in our home, rejection by family and no understanding from anyone I ever knew. Only when I reached adulthood I went to psychologists and found out that I had depression. Anti depressions definitely helped me but made me pick up so much weight that I became even more depressed. It also affected my skin and I had acne to deal with. As I write this comment, I cannot say for sure if I will make it to the end without committing suicide as I get really down sometimes. I try my best to stay positive. Went for psychic healing and that was probably the best treatment I ever received. The lady who healed me is in Johannesburg and I see her once a month. To all depression sufferers, I am with you and I understand fully your emotions and moods. One does not ask for it, it is “there” waiting for you when you sometimes wake up and try to get out of bed and you cannot pull yourself up. It is a really terrible disease….
