I don’t know… Trying to build self confidence using self help books sounds like the ultimate oxymoron. Self confidence to do what? Talk to girls?

My friend highly recommended this one to me…

It isn’t only about improving or enhancing one’s intelligence through physical fitness - its about how you can work out stress and depression through exercise.
While this one is mainly about the biochemistry behind depression others have different ideas about positive motivators that may of course work better for you. For me it was a number of factors (including biochemical)… getting the right amount of sleep so I wasn’t cranky, hanging out with a positive and fun loving group of friends (not turning down an invite even if I didn’t feel like going cuz I never regretted going), learning something new and exciting (discovering I was capable of something I initially didn’t feel confident about), traveling and expanding my horizons (even if it wasn’t too far away), joking around with friends (laughing and playing pranks), listening to upbeat music or even turning off depressing things on the tube, spending time with a pet - any of those things seemed to help me pull myself out. I even checked out some stuff from the library at a friend’s suggestion and started looking into stuff I was interested in trying out and then went through with my plan. Nothing like feeling proud of myself for accomplishing something. I guess that helped.
Hi, can I ask, where do you feel you lack in confidence? In sport, with girls, at your job? All of the above? Are there any areas you feel you are confident in?

All of the above. I like Annon’s suggestions. I’m not nearly as active as I used to be and I have terrible sleeping habits. As far as friends I don’t have many at all. I think I’ll check that book out.
If you go into any good bookshop you’ll find a selection of self-help books on building confidence. It’s really a case of finding one that you like the style of, some are very factual some based on examples, it depends what works for you. There is a book called ‘Awaken The Giant Within’ by Anthony Robbins, which might be worth a read for you. Good luck with it. Oh and join a club or a gym or something to get out there more, it will help with your confidence.
I like the title of that one
I thought you might! It’s a good book. Here it is on Amazon.com.

It’s one of those that you can see inside a few pages so you can get an idea if it’s readable for you.
