Was The Book Of The Revelation Of Jesus Christ written

as one long prophecy or was it written in several different ones then later put together as one book?
Also if you have any links to where I can study this I would appreciate it. I tried looking but came up with nothing so far but maybe I am not using the right search words.
Thanks

Not able to answer that but very interested if someone else can. I know that the whole book supposedly came from “John.” I always assumed it was one prophecy. Good luck getting your answer.

Yes. It was written by John, the apostle, around 81-96 AD.

Revelation was an apocalyptic writing commonly used by Jewish authors during this time. But the book of Revelation was not meant to predict the future but to encourage Christians in every age hence to maintain their faith despite opposition. And to do so in the confidence that they would share in Jesus’ ultimate victory over all forces that oppose Him and his people.

I took up Old Testament Survey and the New Testament Survey. I really can’t remember the New Testament Survey so I need to search my old files or ask so I can help you.

thank you seah
Just so far from reading I am leaning more towards it being written as one prophecy because so far new chapters seem to begin with “And Then” or “Then I saw” but I am not even half done reading the whole book…reading it real slow and re-reading too.
I will be looking for more posts on this and thanks for your help.

The book of Revelations was written during a time of persecution typically the latter part of Nero’s reign and the latter part of Domitian which would date the writing around 95. John was the author. This was a single writting addressing situations that believers were going through at Smyrna and Philadelphia.

I would look for a good commentary on Revelation as well it can be quite helpful as a commentary will explain within the context of the writing.

Just don’t assume that anything in it predicts the future. People like to attribute every new war that comes along as being described in Rev., and every new leader as the AC. Don’t go tilting at windmills. When Ronald Reagan was elected president, people said he was the AC because each of his names has six letters. Then it was Saddam Hussein, and now some fools are saying it’s Obama. The truth is that evil and good are found in all of us, and that finding ways to make life on earth peaceful and sustainable are more difficult than waiting out any hypothetical period of persecution.

Living well is a greater challenge than dying nobly. And people who become enamored with Revelation are usually focused on the latter (I speak from prior experience).

Did a dude named John write the whole thing? Maybe. Inspired? Maybe some. More likely he was doing shrooms.
