Finding work you love, how does one do that?
David Foster released a book Hitman, and a tag there hit me, finding work you love. And yes, he is correct. But, how does one do that? How does one find that? How do you know it is something you will want for the rest of your life, and not only for a moment? How would you know that it is something you want and not merely fancy or like. How would you know, really? Inputs please. Many thanks! =)

You have to follow your heart and what interests you. Find your strengths and gifts and apply them to what is available out there. Most of us have a dream job and for some reason don’t follow that dream whether it’s low self esteem, fear or our situation that holds us back. I believe in following that dream and it’s never too late. What you like may change throughout your life as well so a change may be necessary. I figure we spend more time working than most other things in life, may as well be passionate about it.
thanks ms enigma!
Interesting… This is something im trying to find the answers to as well
yah sky! hope more people would help us

I think you have to find something where you’re good at the basics.
With practice, you get better until you’re confident you can do it.
Having a strong interest in what you’ve chosen is so important too.
Ok I love parties, going to them planning them organiseing them I love socialising, so I’m an events planner with hopes to one day move into wedding planning but thats not a big thing over here in the UK yet, I’m gonna change that, think of things you love doing and turn that into a career, my best mate she is sporty, she loves being in charge and bossing people around so she is a personal trainer,
thanks for the inputs guys!
heya…well i myself found this answer a few month back…

Yes, as Ms E said, what are your interests….personally, if I had to do over, would have pursued something in the golf world. That is where my love lies!
So then you go for another career change who say’s you need to stick to it forever, I have been a financial advisor, a property investor, worked in advertising and now event planning, okei! wrote:

I suppose it depends how quick you learn, my friend is 50 this year and just finished a degree, but definatly think about things you love I plan and go to parties for a living just 2 years ago i would never have dreamed I would have a job I love it started just from doing a bit of charity work and I thought why not go for it i had to take a pay cut for a while but my pay is back up already and I’m happy at work

thanks. hopefully will be able to do that too :p
Take a deep breath and a massive risk, be really brave and know that you will be able to deal with the consiquences if needs be, have a big plan and a back up plan, mine was righ leave really high paid job get very low paid job move back with the parents for a few months untill I get back on my feet and if it all fails then do some temp work and start again and the company I left that paid really high wages are closing in the new year so I would have had to leave anyway. Be brave I hope you find something

Aww thanks Okei, you are too kind :)
Do what you are passionate about!
What if you dont know what you are passionate about?
Then you have to find out :)
Sometimes that takes a while, but its always possible!
Hi Okei, I agree it is something your passionate about. That is your something that you feel strongly about, it’s top priority for you, s-thing you know you’ll never change your mind on,and when you do it it doesn’t feel like work and you loose track of time when your in it.Its hard to explain to anyone b/c the answer is in you, in your steps on the way there.Yes, it takes time but you have to start where you are, its not a absolute and crystal clear picture and it can change direction but it lives in you,its part of you, in your childhood dreams, in your beliefs and convictions. suggestion; self-knowledge. Get to know yourself like you would get to know another person,.Find out what makes you angry, stirred up,fix or change this or that for the better Something where the sacrifices or money dont matter.wher if someone stood in your way you would not budge. That is passion and thats where YOUR answer is.

Been doing my career for 11 years. I would not be able to imagine myself doing it. It is not only with the money, but also joy and fulfillment.
Good luck in finding the right one for you. :)

*Not doing it.
sorry typo.
Another thought, your passion may be God related, in the church, in his purpose etc..

Hi sky, i am teaching. Started teaching at the age of 19. I never knew i would want to teach really. After graduation i worked as a radio jock, researcher for a tv program then a marketing consultant. It was a full year of unfulfillment doing those. I started as a substitute of a friend who was a teacher. Then i started appreciating the job then they hired me as a full time teacher one time. Been one since then. :)
wow thank you! nice inputs. will take those into consideration. i guess the bottom line is to know thyself first, and the rest will follow. many thanks again guys and girls! :p

My mom said i should become either a teacher or a nurse but like you said i dont see me as being one. Im not patient and i never really cared for kids. Everyone is saying becoming a teacher is the way to go but i just dont know…. I just know i love people but have to have my alone time whenever i feel its too much
It is finding the job we are most comfortable with i consider a challenge. There are jobs for those who would like to work with groups like a team work for example. But there are also works good for those who would prefer working by themselves. My work as a researcher/writer let me work by myself but i thought it was not good for me. My dad is an architect and i tried taking up architecture but i stopped before i went to the archie school. It was not my dream and maths is not my line. So i think i followed what my heart wanted.
Thats good, but it looks like it takes a lot of soul searching and experiencing to find out what you truly love, which may change through out your life. Because people change all the time. And to me its worth searching for if you truly want to be satisfied with life.
me personally, i don’t think there is ‘one’ dream job…
there are hundreds of thousands of jobs to do in the world and so my advise would be to try jobs out until you find one you’re happy with.
also people change over time so 8 years down the road you might find out that you hate what you used to do.
but you got to start somewhere!!

Yes that is true. And the basic thing is to get an idea as to what we really want, that is the first step. We would like to decide if we want to work with numbers, literature, with people, in the office or in the field. I knew i wanted to take up journalism for example because i like to read newspaper. :)
This might also help. :)
