3x - y = 2 then times by 2

8x + 2y = 24
6x + 2y = 4 then cancel them down

2x = 20 divide this by 2
x = 10

plug it in to equasion

40 + y = 12
so y = -28

4x + y = 12
3x - y = 2

make them the same
12x + 3y = 36
12x - 4y = 8

subtract them
7y = 28
y = 4

sub y into equation
4x + 4 = 12
4x = 8

x = 2

therefore x = 2 and y = 4

you did that right except the fact that they still arent the same because -y x 2 = -2y not +2y

4x + y = 12
3x - y = 2

7x / = 14

x = 7
14

x = 2

Now pick an equation and put the answer instead of it.

Example: 4 (2) + y = 12.

8 + y = 12

y = 12 - 8

y = 4

Therefore x = 2 y = 4

4x + y = 12
3y - y = 2

I would guess that is equivalent to
4x + y = 12
0x + 2y = 2

There
8x + 2y = 24
0x + 2y = 2

8x = 22
4x = 11
2x = 5.5
x = 2.75

11 + y = 12
y = 1

x = 2.75 and y = 1
