DESPERATELY NEEDS DENTAL HELP IN the METRO DETROIT AREA

I am going to try to make this as short as possible but my story is a long and complicated one so PLEASE do not get bored and stop reading this because I REALLY, REALLY NEED HELP! PLEASE!! I AM BEGGING NOW BECAUSE I DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO ANYMORE!(I have exhausted Ins. Co., Attys, Gov. Agencies, etc.. I went deaf in 5 months in 1997 from the flu (autoimmune hearing loss disease) at that time I also developed peripheral neuropathy and ended up on chemo and tons of drugs. As the years went on I ended up having 2 cochlear implants (the first one abscessed and had to be removed) 2 knee replacements, a hip replacement, 2 cataract surgeries, a gastric bypass that went bad from 1982 and the staples came out in 2002 so I had to have all but a small part of my stomach removed.(or around there) All my illnesses have all morphed together and they feel like I was up in the sky looking down for a good portion of my life. I tried to get pregnant for almost 20 years and when I was 40 I did get pregnant and right now I am 54 and my daughter is 14 and she really is the one I am writing this for because she has hardly ever seen me not having some kind of medical issue in her lifetime & it pretty much stinks because I just started feeling great and I was walking good and feeling good and did not even have a cold for over 3 years (I am pretty much a loner now because when you get sick your friends and your family drift away..I think I would probably not be on this earth if it was not for my daughter because what I have endured these past 2 years are worse than all my illnesses, surgeries. Everything put together. My teeth took a toll from the chemo, and all the medicines I still have to take and will have to the rest of my life and the medicine I am on causes dry mouth and dry mouth causes decay and etc, etc..and when they did not know why I was throwing up for 2 years and going from one Dr.to the next I finally found out what had happened and that is when they removed my stomach.
Well, my dentist after working on my teeth and doing root canal after root canal she told me she that it would be best for me to have all my teeth pulled out because with in 5 years I would lose all of my teeth
and she said because I needed to chew my food really well because of my stomach surgery and I was not able to eat allot of certain foods I should be eating so I was just wasting my money paying for all the dental procedures to repair my teeth when in the end I would need dentures anyway So every time I went in complaining (They did a bad impression and she did not charge me for that set of dentures)I wanted her to do an new impression for my permanent dentures but she kept telling me to wait to wait the 6 months when my bones healed and then she would take a better impression but 1 day my husband walked in her office to make the 6 month appt and the assistant came out and said “Dr. B…said that she has done all she can for you so do not come back”.
Well that pretty much destroyed me because what do I do now because she said I would need dental implants to hold my dentures in because I have so much bone loss but she supposedly could not tell this from the x-rays BEFORE I had all my teeth pulled!
This was at the same time (my husb, daughter and myself) were in the process of moving and when we did move I found a dentist in the local newspaper that advertised dentures and implants and so I went to her and she told me that the reason my denture would not stay in is because it was too heavy so she made a impression and when it came back and they put it in my mouth and I looked exactly like a horse and she said that she had to do it that way because I do not have alot of bone to hold the denture in and I refused to walk around like that and my husband refused it too so she said my only option would be dental implants 4 of them and she could shave the denture down and all that would be there was the teeth and a little ridge around it and the teeth snap into the implants and it holds the dentures in and that I would be eating corn on the cob by Memorial weekend (this was in March of 2007) (I should tell you that the surgeon who was going to do the surgery went out of the country (he was foreign) but he never came back so she called in another dentist to step in and I was suppose to be put out for this but he did not know me he said so I would have to be awake while they drilled into my sinus cavity and jaw bone for almost 3 hours and after a I bet 100 injections of Novocain and I could not cry he said or I could permanently damage myself so I sat in that chair sobbing inside trying not to move while he did this surgery in a cubicle will several people just watching) now to get back to what I was saying he did the surgery and 1 implant fell out 2 days after and then the 2nd one fell out and so I went back and they said they would try to do it with just 2 implants (put the denture on it) so instead of waiting a few months it was about 6 months or more and the day I was suppose to have the regular dentist open up the jaw line to expose the implant to screw on the cap to snap the denture on they told me the other 2 had failed also (they took an x-ray) so after my husband trying every avenue he could to get up $12,000.00 CASH to have the surgery done (we had just moved into a new home, our first home after living in a single wide trailer with the 3 of us for 15 years and it was suppose to be a fresh start)but when they needed the money we were only in our house for 2 months (so there goes what little money we had left)) my husband and I go in debt and borrow the money from Care Credit (they would not give us much because we just bought a house) and so he applied for some new credit cards and we got advances for cash and that is how we got the money up for the surgery.(now I have NO teeth and NO money!) So after the implants fell out they sent me to a specialist (which they should have done to begin with) and he says I have to have a bone graft from my hip to rebuild my jaw bone and the whole procedure would be in steps over 1 1/2 years and when his biller walked in with the estimate for the surgery I took one look at the figure and I got up and walked out as fast as I could because I was about to start crying hysterically and 2 seconds later my husband walked out with his head down and he got in the car and did not say anything because what could he say?? We needed $37,000.00 now for the surgery because my dental insurance only covers $1500.00 a year and my insurance company says it is considered cosmetic surgery but if I get into a car accident and brake my jaw bone and it had to be replaced they would cover it. That is what they told us. So we went and got 2 more opinions and each one took an x-ray and said that the surgery should never have taken place to begin with because there is not enough bone to even put implants in and when I handed him my dentures he didn’t even think they were mine because he said the (2nd set) did not fit either so for the last 2 years now I have stayed in the house and I do not come out of my room now. I went from having teeth all in the front and on the bottom and they were enough to at least let me eat, smile & live a normal life BUT now I look like a 90 year old woman and my 14 old daughter has gained weight (50 pounds) and now weighs 174 pounds because I cannot eat anything like vegetables, fruits, meat, etc and I do not have much choice in what I am able to eat and if I end of swallowing it without “numbing” it I throw it up ten minutes after I eat. I am so depressed now I don’t get out of my nightgown or leave my bedroom (I have not even finished unpacking yet or decorating the house) and my relationship with my husband who tries his best to do what he can do like the laundry, the cleaning, cooking, etc tries hard but he mainly just eats fast foods because he is too tired to grocery shop, cook and everything else he does that a wife and mother should be doing and I bring my food in my room and eat by myself so I can eat with my fingers and scrape the piece of meat across the bottom teeth I have left and I used to be happy and I used to be o.k. looking and now I look like a 90 year old freak and sometimes I will take my medicine and I will start feeling like myself because I will forget what I look like because I can’t see myself but when I see myself in the mirror reality sets in and my husband works nights so I stay awake sometimes for 2 days straight without sleeping and I never, ever leave the house EXCEPT to go to a dr. appt so we have packages coming back and forth because that is house I buy my daughters clothes and my husband worries about the money and he is diabetic and my daughter is so afraid id my husband will die because he has lost a lot of young family members (his brother died when he was 40 and my husband is 44). He does not get much sleep either but he has to go and work as a BUS MECHANIC every night which is a hard & stressful job and then he comes home and has to take my daughter to school and he sleeps a few hours and then I start begging him to make my appts because I have not used the phone since I lost my hearing and right now I am wearing a loaner (processor) for my cochlear implant because my processor died airing it 24/7 and I need $4,000.00 to get a new one but thankfully the Michigan Ear Institute helped me out. We have been fighting with my Insurance company and we are going for the I believe 2nd stage soon but we know what they will say because it says right in the contract they do not cover any type of dental work.
So I am begging anybody out there to please help me and my family because my daughter deserves to have a mother and after everything we have been through together we deserve to have some kind of normalcy in our lives but if we do not get some kind of assistance I cannot imagine myself staying this way the rest of my life. I just can’t. My daughter sees me crying every single day of her life now and I yell at her and I yell at my husband and all of my family has pretty much forgotten about me and I cannot call them because I cannot use a phone and they will not write to me even when I see them online because I think they are tired of listening to all my problems so if there is anyone, any dentist, anybody that works in a program or knows somebody that does that can help me get this surgery PLEASE you will not only be saving one person you will be saving a whole family.

Thank you for your time reading my story.
Kathy

we need 11k for my wifes teeth… we have zero basically..no insurence etc……i’ll for go the details pretty much the same lines as yours but with diffetent twists. very very sad.
all we can do is ” walk by faith and not by site” this is in the bible. if we look at it with our site it is too depressing….
god says he wants us healthy so we have to just ask for that and believe it an keep that faith no matter what..i know that sounds simple…but it’s so simp[le it’s hard…
i wanted to give you something…this is what i can give.
find that scripture and quote it over an over an hang onto it..an good luck.
if we find the 11k an there is a way for you we will wright again..

Hello,
I don’t know where you live, but many dental schools/universities do free dental work and surgery for the uninsured/low income. You should check into universities in your area and find out more about it. I have a friend who had a very complicated dental problem who was operated on and given implants in a university setting. Good luck to you. Thank God your daughter has kept your will and hope alive. God Bless!
