computer help: I’m having WiFi trouble! - Help.com

I’m having WiFi trouble!

I bought a new Buffalo wireless router. It’s mainly connected to my husband’s PC, and it’s working fine on his computer. My problem comes where I am unable to enter the WPA password into my Mac PowerBook G4 and have it work. It tells me that the password is too long (it’s a huge string of letters and numbers). How can I get around this so I can use my laptop without being tied to this stupid Ethernet cord??? I’d like to eventually use DS and Wii WiFi capabilities as well.

Can anyone help? How can I make the long long LONG password work on my laptop? Any Mac experts out there?

I think you can simply change it to shorter one. WPA doesn’t have to be long. Also, you can try WEP protection.

Shoot…The problem is that I’m not sure how I’d go about changing the password. The main system is on a Japanese version of Microsoft XP, and while I’m fair enough in the language, there’s quite a bit of technical characters I can’t read yet! >_

I realize this is heading into some complex territory, but it’ll cost $100+ to have someone come out here and deal with it, so I thought it would be worth the shot trying to find help here. Is there any way to point me in the right direction as far as where I should go on the PC to find the section where I can have the password changed? If I can stumble my way into the right place (in other words, I can tell by looking at the icon for “My Computer” how to get there, whether I can read it or not). Buffalo has its own web page, but all we were able to do was find the huge string of letters and numbers for the password. I have no clue how to change it.

Thanks for the help!!!
