Pain and nociception help: Neck Pain, anyone know anything about whiplash? - Help.com

Neck Pain, anyone know anything about whiplash?

or Similar things.

Ok I was in a car crash about half a year ago, involving a wall.

Haha good times.

I’m not sure if this is right, or who I heard it from but I heard you can get whiplash pains etc after awhile?

Just looking for some answers, as my neck is freaking killing me. Have to hold it at an angle, but yeah it hurts like crazy if I use my neck to turn my head etc, or to relax it (got my head at an awkward angle that is giving me a headache) feels kind of as if my neck isn’t strong enough to hold my head.

After the accident I went to hospital and was found to be generally ok, just minor injuries.

So if anyone knows anything about whiplash that would be good.

If the pain continues for more than a day I’ll go to the doctors or something because **** it hurts.

Not exactly sure about the correct medical answer, but something very similar happened to me.
I got in a really bad wreck and at first I felt fine. A few days later my neck began to hurt. Few weeks later, it was unbareable. It got so bad that I had my mom take me to the ER and I couldn’t stop crying. Well, the ER didn’t “fix” me so I went and saw my regular doctor a few days later. He told me I had a pinched nerve in the back of my neck. I had to take pain medication and I had to go to this therapy thing for my neck - every day for one week.

That didn’t really help 100% because I still have problems to this day. They aren’t really bad, but every once in awhile it will just be awful. What works for me are ThermaCare neck wraps. These things are amazing!

To be honest it does feel a bit like a trapped nerve pain, not just a quick one though D: kinda different though, I don’t know it just hurts hehe

Yeah I actually feel that I want to cry a bit and I havnt done that over pain in about 5 years haha.

Though it’s ok if I don’t move, which kinda sucks I’ve grown used to using my neck.

Lol.
I’m probably just more of a wimp than you. :P but it was miserable.
Try those neck wraps, I really think they’ll help. If you can’t find those anywhere near you, just use a heating pad/blanket.

I would imagine the actual whiplash would have settled down by now, though it could have triggered other things.

Here are a few common causes of what you’re describing http://www.arc.org.uk/arthinfo/patpub…

Keep warm, try to use your neck and shoulder muscles normally, gently exercisisng where you can (sometimes we make things worse by over-compensating). If you have some paracetemol or Ibuprofen that can help take the edge off it. If you don’t have a neck wrap, you can improvise with a hand towel made slightly damp in very hot water.

A nice warm bath can do wonders too.

Good luck, I hope it gets better soon.

i was in a car crash 20 years ago. Bounced between two tractor trailers spun around and hit the guardrail and took full impact with the steering wheel. Walked out of the accident perfectly fine. One week later was in excruciating neck pain. I had severe whiplash and went through therapy. It took months and months to start feeling better. Twenty years later and the darn thing started up again. I couldnt figure out what it was until the Dr asked me did i ever have whiplash. Apparantly it can act up years later! So its off to therapy again..and i agree withthe above poster. The therma wraps are fantastic! I hope you feel better.
