It depends:
If you’re a girl, its not such a bad thing - but you lose power.
He has the advantage - normally you must wage a war of attrition until both sides are willing to call a truce (normally with the guy proposing) - this balances power and ensures harmony.

If you’re a guy:
1. If the lad is openly gay, you have nothing to lose.
2. If he isn’t you may be ridiculed! Shunned by society!
I don’t think gay people have such power issues that non-gay couples have (since they’re both men / women).
