I’ve been diagnosed with Insulin Resistance…

And I hate it. I’m so depressed. I love carbs dammit! But most of all, it scares me… I’ll have to keep an eye on everything I eat, and what happens if later in life I get diabetes? I have lots of uncles and auts who’ve had or have diabetes. I’m scared, and also sad that I’ll have to limit myself so much. I’m 20… all my friends eat is pizza, fries and the like… I’ll have to start eating whole grain and lots of protein… sigh… I also hate to admit or to think of myself a someone with “a condition”. I’ve always been healthy, I rarely ever get sick, so it never occurred to me that one day I’d be someone with a condition… I hate thinking of myself as sick…

:(

I’m really sad…

From the books I have read insulin resistance can be turned around… In fact if you start eating a diet for insulin resistance you will feel soooo much healthier you may not want to go back to pizza

Hey well I’m a Type 1 diabetic (insulin dependant) - have been for years and it ain’t so bad really :-) Yeah I have to eat healthy but to be honest I feel more energetic now and I keep more of an eye on weight, health etc. so am better than majority of non-diabetics in England anyhow. This may sound a bit rude.. but I don’t mean to be rude ok but have you been diagnosed as clinically overweight? It’s just that Type 2 diabetics (ie. diet and tablets only) are usually clinically overweight. To be honest I’ve rarely heard of the insulin resistant type that isn’t diabetic in England but I haven’t not heard of it if you catch my drift. I say everything in moderation anyway, that means exercise, pizza and cake if you want it and healthy protein and grainy foods. There’s nothing you can’t enjoy in life as long as you gain reasonable control over your weight and diet and you can enjoy the odd ice cream or pizza from time to time no bother. Maybe not in the first few weeks or whatever and go by your GP not by me but being Type 1 diabetic and having to stick to a regime and a condition is something I’ve had to come to terms with. Don’t get me wrong I have my bad days but I have a lot of support from a diabetes website and my friends if I need it but I am still free to do most things (bar skydiving I believe), including eating cake, pizza and fries from time to time :-D
