Cellphones and hospitals.

Was at a hospital tonight and was shouted at for using a cellphone by a cleaner. Why are cell phones a problem.

1) The hospital uses cordless phones.
2) the hospital uses cellular pages.
3) The hospital is littered with wireless access points.
4) Most modern equipment is electrically shielded.
5) The building is not electromagnetically shielded. (If it was, my cellphone wouldn’t work inside.

So what gives?

Is it possible that all their equipment operates at frequencies which would not interfere with the operation of sensitive electronic equipment, and cell phones do?

My Dad works in a hospital, he sais it’s just to scare people into not using them with the whole “you’ll mess up the equipmeant thing”. They just don’t want the annoying racket.
