What do I major in to become a part of the UN?

I’m really interested in becoming a part of the United Nations once I graduate college… Seems like an excellent opportunity to travel and help out with the global situations.

What should I major in to be a part of the UN? Any electives I could take while Im still in High school? (im in 11th grade)

Currently taking Latin, should I switch over to Spanish?

Thanks!

Try international relations. At any rate, googling it should come up with some useful things.

Oh, and definitely switch to Spanish. Latin doesn’t really help that much. Spanish, Arabic, French and English are the most useful languages used in the UN. Not sure about the NY department, but here in Switzerland those are the main languages.

Thanks yassengre!

Also, a political science class is opening next semester, should I take that or go for 3rd year in global studies?

The UN is much less politics than global studies as far as I’m concerned. Quite honestly, I don’t work at the UN but I know quite a few people - and none of them are very political. Most people work in secondary organizations surrounding the UN (UNESCO, ILO, WHO, etc.) which is more of a global studies thing.

So hmm.. I can’t really tell you what to do. Either one is fine, I guess. Depends on where exactly in the UN you want to work.

Hmm, okay thanks sir, one more question if you could answer it, I am in my schools honor program, and I fence (which is hugely liable for scholarships because no one ever does fencing), so what school(s) do you recommend I look into? College visiting time is coming soon
