Is this download safe and how can I make sure in the future whether a free download is safe?

The current download I’m referring to is TrueCrypt open incryption software. Is there a specific site that can assist in providing safety information about free downloads? The TrueCrypt address is http://www.truecrypt.org/downloads.php

if your unsure about that site see if you can get that software from a safe file mirror like downloads.com, filehippo.com, or filemirrors.com

You can never be sure until you download it and scan it with your anti-virus software.

But it’s generally unlikely to be a problem when it comes from a proper company like that.

On second glance, it is safe. The site is hosted by sourceforge.net and their software is usually safe.
