how to write lyrics?

im pretty musically inclined, i taught myself guitar and piano, and i play trombone for my high school marching band and jazz band. Ive been wanting to write an entire song (guitar, drums, vocals, everything) for a while but i cant just make up music and have words come to it. I feel that i need to have lyrics, or at least a general idea of the lyrics before i start making something. Im just really not sure how to go about coming up with lyrics.
thanks for all of your help in advance!

just get an idea of vocal melody first, then write the instrumentation and the words should fall into place. that’s how my band do it anyways. good luck and all.

well, why don’t you put it all together, then listen to it a few times.
You may feel that lyrics wouldn’t be necessary.

You could look at poetry. Find a poem with the same beat structure as your music, and make something similar.

OK you have to start of with a sentence.Any thing what comes in your mind.I am writing a song and I’m in the middle of it .Now depending on the tempo of the song words have to go with the tempo.”For all the wrong reasons” was my first line now i would go like: la la la la lala .Now the second line “Now iknow why”i have written ” iknow :together because i want la lala la like this .I could write it in musical notes but that is if you know how to read notes .that is your start of a song

When writing lyrics it’s like writing a short story. It has a beginning and a plot and an ending. The ending is usually the ending repeated over and over again. But, most people think of a song that tells a story. Whether is be love, pain, or an object.

You have to be in a mood where creativity can happen. Go back in time when something significant happened and you were thrown for a loop. Perhaps you saw a beautiful sunset, a gorgeous human being, a person suffering etc.

Like a painter who watches people that he would like to paint. He looks and looks at them all day long and then he sees a person that is hit by an awakening or a apitheny and then he paints them in that moment.

I have just heard from composers that good songs are songs just like stories. Why don’t you analyze some of the most popular songs…..they are stories….only very short stories.

Make a rant, and make it rhyme. It’s pretty fun. I’ve posted some songs on this site.
