The only thing I can think of is that she feels compelled to lie because of her own inadequacies or because she is in some way ashamed of her life.

Whatever the reason, I don’t think you should pair her any heed - she clearly has no concern for your feelings, so the best things to do is to stop caring about what she says.

Someone like that isn’t worth your time.

I’m sure you’ll find someone better, someone who treats you right and who deserves to be with you.
