yes, but I don’t believe in the supernatural, and certaimly don’t believe in ghosts in the common usage of the word.
Yeah but they usually see htings from the past that they have never studied or known about in there life, then they look up the history and find out what happened,
I don’t see any reason not to believe in ghosts — people have mentioned them all my life, in a multitude of contexts and cultural settings.
That’s not to say that I particularly strongly believe that they exist in any specific way, more in a ghostly sort of mysterious semi-mythical, spiritual way.
okay, sure I could come up with some reasons. Reasons are about as ghostly as ghosts themselves though.

post selection bias, look it up. People see ghosts because they want to see them.
That said, I did once “get a bad feeling” about a place and I remember thinking “why, whats wrong with it”. Later I found out unpleasant things had happened there. My subconscious mind is awesome to pick up on something i didn’t rationally understand. Or it could just have been coincidence
I dont think families walk into houses waiting to see a ghost, don’t you think that would be sort of dumb?

yeah there is, because people want to believe in it. There is no evidence for God, love or free will, but most people enjoy them anyway.

Agreed , People believe what they want to believe and the brain is a powerful trickster .
Indeed, but it also can sense things that we aren’t consciously aware of. I can point you to double blind tests about hypnosis and memory

True. I take that one off the list.
You see? sense things that we aren’t aware of… maybe because there is actually something there?…

Yes, there is often something there. There is a famous story of a mind reading horse. He ended up being able to read the subtle changes in physiology when his tapping foot got closer to the number in the questioners head. I think that’s awesome, but its not ghosts, its just stuff below our “pay attention to that” level.
Why the desire for ghost to be real? is it the adventure or something?
Yeah, just a bit, going to transylvania with some friends in a few years… so…
Most likely, it used to be a tortureplace or something like that.
torture place*
Actually, there are “ghosts” most places. I remember a story by an anthropologist who was really shocked into incomprehension by the fact that the primitive jungle tribe he was living with had no normal “ghost” “spirit” “religious” things. Like the lack of existence of bizarre weird supernaturalism was too much for an overeducated trained scientist to understand.
Well then… that explains a lot i guess,
Show me proof, and I’ll believe. That’s my stance.
There is a lovely winery near me that is run by a man proud of his transylvanian heritage. He’s got pics of all the castles and mountains scenery. He didn’t get the western view of it being all ghosts and gouls. Its just a place like any other but was demonised. They are renouned for their old school pagan beliefs though.
If you want to enjoy a ghost tour, go ahead, and if believing in them being more real than haunting stories makes you enjoy it more, then woot for you.

Yeah, but that sounds awkward to say.

The hopeful believe in ghosts
Do you believe that if a violent act happened in a location, that it is possible for people to be able to sense that on a subconciouse level in some way? I don’t believe in the bedsheet style of ghosts, but I did have a strange feeling for the first time ever in a place I found out afterwards had witnessed violence. My sceptical brain clung to the idea that the place was well suited to violence due to it typography, and I felt unsafe there for that reason, and in the past someone had taken advantage of the cover there.
My dad is a total cynic about all things like that, yet a couple of years back he had a couple of experiences that changed his mind completely so now I am slightly more open minded about there being some kind of energy force (or something along those lines)that might remain

It seems likely, as human minds can’t process all the data coming in from the senses consciously, so it filters out what it doesn’t need to know or doesn’t fit with its model of reality. I would be cool if someone learnt how to measure it.
Then again, maybe it’s more fun to allow a few places for the imagination to run wild and create marvelous and dastardly creatures.

Oh definately more fun! What would life be like without wondering and that little pang of fear every now and then?!
