I am going to spend 3 months traveling across Europe next summer.

I’m 19 and I will be traveling alone.

These are the main cities I plan to visit are Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Salzburg, Munich, Cologne, Paris, Madrid, Seville, Barcelona, Nice, Bern, Interlaken, Milan, Venice, Florence, Rome, Athens, Crete, Istanbul, Sofia, Belgrade, Budapest, Kiev , Moscow, ****. Petersburg, Riga, Stockholm…

I am wondering how much should i expect to spend during those 3 months. I already have my plan tickets in order. I just need an estimate on housing, food, etc…..

Yea I have it planned out pretty far. I already have the route I am going to take (which is pretty simple). But I also want it to be a roadtrip type thing where it’s not planned out to the very last day

Why don’t you try using a college travel trip to knock out a couple of those cities? I know you won’t exactly be “traveling alone” which is quite fun, although risky. And many of those trips allow you to stay extra time afterward, so you can still see the rest of europe, but the first few places were a bit cheaper.

I thought about that but it would not allow the flexibility in traveling as I would like. I want it to be more of a roadtrip thing even though I am flying from the US to have the “roadtrip”

those college trips are actually more expensive than it would be to book it by yourself.

how long do you plan to stay in each city? equal time? and what types of accommodations are you looking for… there are nice hotels, b&b’s, hostels…

Yeah they are a lot more expensive several thousand for one city.

No i do not plan on staying in each city equal time. I might stay in one for a week and another for a couple days. All depend on how much I like the city when I arrive (but I am aiming for at least 2 days)

I would like anything that is safe and livable (nothing that is “gross”)

I think the biggest expense will be hotels or hostels. For three months I reckon you will spend somewhere in the region of 600-700 euros at least for housing…depends though on how long you stay in which city, where and when…
My advice is to stay on the outskirts of cities, where hotels are cheaper. I usually book at http://www.venere.com/italy/rome for Rome hotels or use venere.com for Italy in general. As far as food goes that will be pretty cheap and I think you should consider like 400? Depends how much your budget is really!

Well, there is lot of country to visit, you may spend lot of money for accommodation, especially in Paris. Approximate cost for city center hotel room in Paris is around $100-$250 a night for a decent hotel based on http://www.tripadvisor.com/, and rent a studio room start around 100 Euro based on http://www.lodjee.com.
Avoid hotel restaurant food to save your money as the menu sometimes is over priced.

I know this is an old post but I’m traveling Europe with my husband and we are “semi” backpacking, and we are taking $30000 not including all transport and accommodation costs, so that’s just food and spending. We are doing Ibiza for a week, then Barcelona, Valencia, Greek isles, athens, Rome Florence and Venice, lauterbrunnen Switzerland, krakow, Berlin, Munich, Paris, Brussels & Brugge, Amsterdam, London, and tromso, Norway in October for the northern lights, then we are going on a 10 day tour of Egypt. I wanted to fit Gallipoli in as well but am planning a 2 week trip to Ireland in a few years so might tack it on the end of that, spend 1 week in turkey too.
But this trip is going to be a big one. We plan on keeping a budget but not being too tight on alcohol and experiences, we don’t mind self catering and walking Alot too…
Can’t wait! :-)
