Computer & Virus problems–any ideas?

So I logged on to my parents’ computer for the first time in 2 weeks and as soon as I started up firefox, there were pop-ups up the wazoo all night. There hadn’t been any problems on my parents’ accounts, it seemed like it was something I did to install a browser helper object or something else. I’ve scanned my files with McAfee, a virus scanning program…it caught 16 (!!) trojans and a bunch of other unwanted progams. But there are still pop-ups! And now it’s moved on to my Mom’s account–there are so many pop-ups.
I feel awful about this and I’ve assumed full responsibility to fix whatever it is that I did…but I have no idea where to start. What can I do?!

Uninstall Firefox.
Run full complete virus scan and ad-aware scan in safe mode.
When complete, reinstall firefox. Check in tools>>options that pop-up blocker is active.

Try this link but only download the free one. Don’t pay for anything. I did it and it erased most of my pop ups and run the scanner. It worked for me.

Thanks…but I’m not sure it’s just firefox that’s the problem. I’m getting IE pop-ups as well, and I think it was something I did on IE that caused the problem. But it can’t hurt to try.

Go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ and run HouseCall

It will take some time, but it finds viruses, spyware, malware etc and gives you the chance to get rid of them.

It’s very good, and it’s free.

Hit control + alt + delete. If in XP, hit the Processes tab and type the list here. If in Vista, click Task Manager, then click Processes tab and type the list here.
