Help me with getting motivated: I think about what I need to do- all I have to do is just do it- and I don’t!

!!! It’s so frustrating! I don’t think it’s that I’m lazy… I don’t know!? Does anyone out there have any good suggestions for ways to get motivated to do things that aren’t that much fun- but are necessary for reaching your long term goals…?

Discipline!!!!
I think most things in life we NEED to do, or should do are not the most fun and exciting.

Let me ask you this;
When you are hungry, do you eat?
When you’re sleepy do you sleep?
When you have to tinkle….he he, do you???

Well, most things in life kinda work that way too! When you have to do something, just do it!!!
Make a list of goals you wanna reach. Write down what steps you have to take to accomplish these goals…
and one by one, just start doing them. Even if you feel at the moment you don’t really want to. I think you will see that once you DISCIPLINE yourself to doing what you need to do, it will become second nature to you. You won’t think “oh man, I have to do this, but ahhhh…don’t really want to right now”.
You’ll realize you said you’d do something and you did. Maybe that can be your first goal. Trust and belive in yourself and DO WHAT YOU SAY YOU’RE GOING TO DO. Maybe and hopefully, once you see you are doing what you need to do that will be motivation in itself! =)

Good luck!!!! xoxo

Ok, this is going to sound really stupid but it works…are you with me? JUST DO IT. That’s it. Dirty kitchen? Just start at one corner-and Just Do It! Carpet needs vacuuming? Just Do It! Don’t think about how long it’s going to take, what you have to do to get the floor ready for vacuuming, or putting back items that are displaced-Just Vacuum! Works for everything. I also enlist the help in a timer for giving me a goal to do something.

Thank you!!! That’s great advice- I know I feel better when I do what needs doing and hope against hope it will become second nature : )

For me, it never becomes second nature. It’s just something you have to do. I down graded my cable bc I watch too much TV. It has totally helped me in focusing on other things that are important like my animals, keeping a cleaner house, and reading! Being messy is second nature though!

lol- that sounds like me- sometimes I wish I could just toss the computer/internet and tv out the window, but alas I’m chained to them! No, I need the net for working, but I think someday it would be really interesting and helpful to live without all this technology for a while…

Maybe just avoid turning these things off one day a week or one hour a day, wahtever works for you. i like to use the NIKE phrase too’ Just do it’ and I feel better for it but when Im really down like lately it doesnt work for me :/ Something else that helped me was to think about if it needs to be done, priority.and not to see it as a chore but a privilege b/c afterall everything is a gift and we should be grateful.for instance I changed from saying to myself-I HAVE to go to the store ‘ to ‘I get to go to the store.And I used to think I wasnt being lazy, but now that i look back, ya, lazyness is part of it, procrastination too for me anyway. i hope this helps , who knows maybe it will help me too by sharing my experience.Also, maybe browse motivational, inspirational sites. I like beliefnet and lifescript and success ones.
