The Nightmare
Light fades away
to a silent refrain
like droplets of water
running back to the sea
the vastness before me
pulls the sun to it’s death
I hear the plea
for last minute rescue
but it sinks to it’s sadness filled watery grave
Cloudbursts erupt
in a fiery revolt
to answer the plea
as they herald his doom
no help is forthcoming
the end has been spoken
like friends with no backbone, they all fade away
The darkness and silence
bring about fear
things seen are less scary
than those we imagine
creatures thought evil
step into the limelight
and call to your mind
as your heart starts to race
while your courage crawls into a corner
Security comes
like an arm round your shoulder
the moon peeking out
from the cloud bank above
watch through the window
the moonlight builds fast
the moment of anguish
is pushed far away
but the memory of fear is still fresh in the mind
Covers pulled up
the mind goes to quiet
the darkness can move
like a thing in a dream
shadows are gathering
devouring the moonlight
in silence you slumber
not even aware
till the last bit of moonlight forever is gone
Startled awake
your fears are renewed
you listen
breath ragged
your heart in your throat
it’s there, it’s waiting
for just the right moment
you know it, you feel it,
the permeation of fear as it runs through you veins and freezes the soul
Thoughts clear
fight or flight
is no longer an option
the beast in the corner
prepares it’s attack
see the tail flip
the lunge in slow motion
time stops. . . . .
heart beat stops. . .
Standing before you
wide eyed in wonder
surprising, you live
as the world resumes shape
reach out to touch
with a timid approach
the purring before you
brings laughter to voice
as the first ray at sunrise brings joy to your soul.
