Year help: I know someone who does not pay their taxes and hasn’t for years. - Help.com

I know someone who does not pay their taxes and hasn’t for years.

This person happens to be my biological father. Would you, if you were me, anonymously report this person to the IRS?

Why would you do this?

Take pride in living your own life honestly. Feel sad for people who don’t.

I wouldn’t.

Despite how bad they are, there are SOME things that our family members do that we just have to let go.

The same reason why I would report a person who was stealing from my company or importing illegal wildlife across borders. Because I have to pay taxes just like any other person and he is stealing from the government and has been able to get away with it for decades. Because it’s plain wrong.

I can understand why you would want to. It is wrong and is not fair on everyone else. Have you tried talking to him about it?

If he’s been doing this for decades he needs to either turn himself in or someone needs to do this but when its family this makes it very hard indeed. To not pay your taxes is a federal crime. I wish I could give you more help and I see elysiums point. It may not take someone turning him in sooner or later it will catch up with him and he will be targeted by the IRS if he hasn’t already been.

He will never turn himself in. He even hides/hordes money under the house. I really wouldn’t have ANY problem turning him in. What’s holding me back is the family finding out that I turned him in which I really don’t think would ever be suspected.

I have actually been going through the same situation…I never turned my dad in though. Truth is the government is good and sooner or later they will find him and he will get his punnishement. my advice to you is just make sure his name or a name that could be on his account is not connected onto your account at all. Once my dad got caught they started garnishing his wages and then since my moms name was on his account as well her wages got garnished and then since her name was on my account they started taking money from my account as well. I then closed down my account and openned a new one a little later on.

If someone was fleeing an armed robber, would you tell the robber which way they went?
