Need Idea’s for making money.

I’m in my second year at university and have canvased the whole area looking for jobs, had a couple of interviews, but i ahve been unable to find work.

I also have a problem with excess bone growth in my hip joint which means spending any kind of time on my feet is painfull, i am having it looked at but it will be at least two months before i have an operation to fix that. This means that the majority of people won’t employ me as i can’t guarrentee i can be at work because of this problem. I’m down to the last £5 in my overdraft.

I was wondering if anyone had any idea’s about how to get some money ( legitimatly of course) as i don’t want to have to rely on getting money from my dad as he is being made redunant at christmas.

Thanks

Moonlight

Firstly, think about your skills and make the most of them. Are you computer savvy? Place an ad in the newsagent offering to install home computers, fix viruses..

Place an ad offering homework help. You may not be able to charge full tuition rates, but you could offer a cheap alternative for a family who can’t afford private lessons. You must be good at something to have got to Uni!

Do some babysitting, odd-jobs, dog-walking.. whatever you can manage. Think about having several “small” flexible jobs rather than just one.

Sign up for a temp agency. Offer your services for data-entry, secretarial, phone answering. With Christmas around the corner, there could well be gaps you can fill.

Some students earn pocket money answering questions for mobile phone company question lines. Your chances of earning much are small, however.

Print off some flyers about yourself and what you can offer and cut out the temp agencies! Post/deliver them direct to Personnel Managers in local offices, shops and businesses. Don’t wait for jobs to come to you… give employers an easy option to solve temporary/difficult staffing problems!

You may have to think “temporary” posts until it’s sorted. It will be though, so don’t lose heart.

Be sure to check that you are getting everything you’re entitled to as well. You may be eligible for additional grant if your household income is going down. You may also be able to claim some disability assistance.

Check with a student finance officer to make sure you aren’t missing out on anything.
