first intentions go back to the untaken photograph
a noose around your neck
or maybe less
a force in your decision
the lace that lines her dress.
suddenly you are nothing but a mess.
let me tell you that the path will take you
where you’d like to go
but to follow the lines
you’ll end up where you know
she’ll paint herself up pretty,
you’ll button up your shirt.
pretend that last, unmentioned, scene never happened,
never hurt.
never should have wrote you
the letter waiting in your box
already i’m the girl
waiting on your block
but with your button up shirt
and your pretty faced girl
you’ll paint on a smile
and step into your world
