Is this part of your homework? If it is, you should study it for yourself!
www.google.com
type “battle of gettysburg”, then click “I’m feeling lucky”
then read the first sentance on that page.
“was the battle with the largest number of casualties in the American Civil War[4] and is frequently cited as the war’s turning point”
Have you ever toured the battle field there? It’s quite interesting and the wax museum is fun, too.
not myself, I’m from Australia - I just copy/pasted.
The gov’t covered up all the battles that happened here to the point that most people don’t even know they happened. What’s battle field like? Do you do a walking tour with little signs saying what happened where?
You drive or you can take bus tours. You get a cassette tape to listen to and it describes what happened at the various areas with sound accompaniment. (guns, screaming, etc. Kinda gruesome some times!)
One side of my is big time pacifist, but another has a boyhood facination of military battles and stratergy. I think it the dreamer that think if I was there, I’d be a great general, but the rest of me know I’d be a grunt on the ground getting his head blown off for no good reason. Still would be interesting. I’ve visted a few places in Europe and they were nicely done, really capturing all the emotions that the people still held about what happened. I live in a fairly unique country that hasn’t had any official home based wars and I sure I would be an eye opener to visit a place like gettysburg. I take it you’ve done the tour?
Seems the poster has left. Some times it as if are just there to spark off new random conversations for the regulars
Yea, I’ve done the tour. I am personally a nonresistant consciencious objector (not to be confused with pacifism). But I still think lessons can be learned from such history. The wax museum was also fascinating with life-size wax figures in various positions to demonstrate happenings.
yeah, like don’t charge up hill into musket and artillery fire… No, I hear you, I remember when I first started reading history outside of school. Looking for unbias accounts of what really happens in the world. Its confronting but so interesting. I have to be off, nice chating to you. Later.
wtf is this it sux
