I’m very afraid of crowds

I’m living away from home at the moment, but I need to come back for the christmas holidays on the 19th of December… The last time I was on those trains was a few weeks ago, and it was already getting busy for christmas… I was stuck standing between loads of people with no air and no room, shaking and crying because I was so terrified. How can I go through that again, only much worse when it’s 6 days before christmas? Is there anything that can help cure or put off this fear?

Talk to a doctor about getting some anti-anxiety medication.

It sounds like you are suffering from agoraphobia. And yes there are meds for it to lessen the anxiety. I have a mild case of it but don’t take any meds.

Meds probably wouldn’t be a bad idea, but I try not to use meds unless I can help it. Is there any other options?

How long of a trip is it? Maybe you could talk someone in your family to come and pick you up.

It’s 3 separate trains, altogether taking about 5 hours. I’ve been trying to get someone to do this, but my mum is busy working right up until christmas and I can’t think of anyone else.

Life is a daily struggle. There are many places in the world were people desperately try to save themselves from floods, wild fire, earthquakes, civil wars, starvation, etc. So don’t give up to your minor fear, but face up to your proplem with a more rational, positive approach in order to reduce your “common” stress.

Thank you :)

I’ve come up with a temporary ‘fix’ to the problem. I realised that there’s a train at half three in the morning, which will be pretty much empty. I took that train last week, to stop the fear building up too much, and it was great! I feel much better now :) It’s not a long-term solution, but its something.
