Which would you choose?

Your dream job that doesn’t gaurentee much or the career you don’t mind settling with that you know will always be there for you? I don’t know what to go to school for. Photography or Nursing… I love photography, that is what I want to do in life. But the draw backs are that it’s hard to find a job and you don’t make a lot of money. I’m scared I wont make it and end up living at my parents till I’m 40 or living poor and unhappy. I like nursing and I have seriously considered going to school to become a RN. I know I’ll always have a job, get a decent salary, and be happy. But it’s not what I would die for. Which do I choose? The career that I could love with all my heart, but risk losing a good lifestlye for or do I choose the career that I could be happy with and just know that I will always have it to fall back on? Anyone have advice?

Bear in mind that your career is just a career, it isn’t your life. That said I think you should pursue your dream! Now is the time to do it, nursing school will always be there. If you don’t give it a shot you’ll always wonder what might have been. You may even find out that it isn’t even right for you anyway.

I would only bet on a sure thing here. Nursing, as you said, you will always pretty much guarantee you a roof over your head, bills paid, and the rewards for helping others is priceless. Photography, you could do as a pass time. on the week-ends, you could pull in a decent income, doing weddings, or for a modeling agency, etc. This career could render you a good living, but is not going to be a shoe in job such as nursing. It may just be possible to have your cake and eat it here. Give this some serious thought , and hopefully you’ll make the best decision for yourself.

you dont have to pick just one! Life is hard and involves a lot of time management, you could do both and if the opportunity presents its self you stop your nursing job. You can always get a job as a nurse in almost any town. This education and experience as a nurse will give you the liquidity that you need to pursue your dreams and not have to compromise your financial future.

You can always go with both. You can be a nurse and do a sideline on photography.

im pretty sure most photography courses are 2 year programs, why not do both? or just buy some photography books and teach yourself. if you really love it you will always find time to do it. having the nursing job could also help finance your hobby, by going to exotic locations etc. maybe then you can make a name for yourself and give up nursing if the opportunity arises!

I don’t think you should make a decision yet. Right now you should look into them both by taking some intro classes. In time you will know what you really want.
