How does window tint film work?
A tinting film is bonded onto a piece of vehicle window glass on the inner surface of the glass. It is typically made of a clear polyester film with thin layers of tinting agents and is designed to reduce glare, but not impede nighttime driving. Tinting film blocks harmful ultra-violet (UV) and infra-red (IR) rays and works by absorbing the UV radiation.
How do I know the window tint film is no longer working?
How effective a film is in blocking UV and IR rays depends on the quality of the film, the amount of exposure to sunlight, and the quality of the installation. A poor quality film can fade under intense sunlight within months of installation, while a good quality film can last many years. The UV inhibitors and adhesive eventually breaks down, and if the tint fades or bubbles, it will need to be replaced.
What are my options?
If the tint film in the vehicle fails, it will probably need to be taken to a local dealer or repair shop. There are numerous automotive websites and glass company websites that advertise auto window repair and replacement services, as well as free evaluation services.
