Fat frustration…

Im 5′4″ and 114 lbs… that is BY NO MEANS FAT!! buuut….. I am just so flabby it is disgusting. I resistance train a lot, I have more muscles than most of the girls my age (I’m 22), I eat really well, very balanced meals, watch how many kcals I eat /day…. but I just dont know what else to do (I know I sound ridiculous right now) It is so frustrating to work so hard toward a goal that sounds extremly attainable, yet you never get there. I feel lazy, fat, and ugly.

I by no means want to look too thin, like I said before I have decent muscle tone, and a decent fat layer on top lol .. its just sick :(

first of all there is a differnce in burning fat and gaining muscles , if you gain muscles it will not come in the place of fat ^_^ , so basically you need to work cardio to burn the fat…

You have the wrong impression of yourself. You want to be perfect and you are never going to be because you want everybody to see you as having a perfect body. If you are really the measurements that you say you are, you are at your ideal weight and mass. What else do you want?

I want the flabbiness to go awayyyyy, I am what I say. I have an ugly stomach. I really think I should be less flabby according to how much I train. My definition of perfect is imperfect I think, I lke flaws, they make you who you are. (I dont let this stupid inseccurity stuff define me as a person, that’s why I’m talking about it here, and not to someone close to me) s*it I just realized how shallow that makes me, and I hate that.

You are pretty young, I agree with tricky about the cardio, on the days you train do you start on the running machine or Elliptical ? this not only will burn some fat it will warm you to start on the weights. I used to do three times a week, two hour sessions. Id start with a half hour run, then after I got my breath back , cross the gym for the weight training, this was the same 3 times a week. Have you had you fat ratio measured at the gym ? if not get them to do it,I cant understand why you think you are flabby at 114lbs, something doesn’t seem right to me. What is your diet like, I know you said you eat well, but do you eat whole grain bread or white, sugar ? How much weight do you lift on the dumbells ? maybe increase in 5lb stages over a few weeks and up your reps a bit, I used to do 3 sets of 15 with 10-15lb dumbells.
Are you working all the muscles in your arms ? triceps, biceps, shoulders, delts ?
Id talk to one of the trainers there, something may need tweaking hon. :-)

I lift hard, I do 3- 4 sets on small muscles (10-15 reps) I’m lifting 17.5 on biceps, 25 shoulder press (w dumbells each) I squat ~50 lbs (on smith machine) 4 sets of 8-10 reps, I dead lift 30 lbs 4 sets of 8 -10, I up my wts after I hit 15 reps. Im a registered dietitian, I eat all the good stuff you can think of!!!

O.o well am friendly with kilo than i think it is pound ur talk about 17.5 O.o you are lifting more than me and am a guy hehhe :D lol

ok listen i think the sets and everything you are doing is wrong this is how the concept goes… you either want to build muscles like get huge muscles or you want to tone them ( i hope tone is the right word , i mean like give them really nice shape and they will look hard and stuff ) anywayz this is how it goes
for building muscles you do 3 sets basically about 10-10-8 but basically with maximum weight…to tone your muscles you do 3 sets 15-14-13 but with low weight but not too low… than in both you try to get abit higher with the weight with time… btw this is at least in my exp ^_^ …

1-more tricks , you have to exhale when you are putting power and inhale air when you are not putting power like push up when you are going up and giving force you exhale when you are going down to inhale…

2-drink a lot of water

3- rest btw sets cause your muscle needs air and stuff

4- you have to sleep really well

5- working everyday will make the muscle tiered so you need to rest like 3 days or 4 max is good

6- every muscles needs about 48hours to rest

7- life is beautiful :D lol :D

Sorry!! divide all numbers by 2.2, that would give you kg (body fat % = 22, and I squat 100 lbs regularly, 50 lbs on each side of the bar bell)

Thanks for your post!!! I rest muscles ok, sometimes I get carried away and over train, but i guess we all do that???? I need to work on 1)sleeping (full time student, with a job, and an internship :s I want to go to medschool) 2) I also talk about how I dont know how to breathe during my sets, I ussually stop breathing half way through the contraction of the muscle… it is bad :(

Ive talked to many people (excercise phys, personal trainers) about lower/higher sets, lower/ higher reps, and everyone seems to have their own opinion. I understand the thinkiing behind higers rep sets, but Ive personally seen more results doing what Im doing… Im not lifting great amts of weight, but i get results faster, and bottom line, I am lifting as hard as I can.
