girl help: I read something that I knew I shouldn’t have. - Help.com

This post left anonymously

I read something that I knew I shouldn’t have.

My instincts told me to leave it alone and just pass it by. But stupid me didn’t listen. A news article on a little girl who’d died in a terrible tragedy now has me in floods of tears. Flashbacks of images from my own past with something similar keep running through my head. I feel sick, and I can’t stop shaking.

My own daughter passed away a few years ago. I’m usually not in the best of moods around the holidays already, I miss her every year. I just all of a sudden just feel sick and overwhelmed by reading that article. I couldn’t even finish it I was already out of it.

And now I’m rambling, I’m sorry.

defo u should never leave the sean if the police get involved you have just uped the charge to hit and run so well done and the very least you could have done was made sure she was ok what if she had other medical problems what you thought of as a few scratches could have been alot worse its unthinkable what you have donr you should have at the very least said sorry and helped her up

I’m sorry, but I’m not getting where a hit and run case has anything to do with this post. Can someone explain?

For the record, yes you should have waited to help the lady. I can at least give the person who was responsible for my daughter’s death a little more respect since they assisted with getting her help. A hit and run case is just pathetic and selfish on your part. No matter how hard she was hit or how much damage was done or not done.

I’m sorry to hear about your loss Grace. Do you want to talk about her or does that make things worse for you?

It’s not the talking about her that gets to me. It’s the flashbacks and the memories of what happened. What I read was another mother’s story about something similar with her own daughter and the events that followed. I don’t know why I read it, I had a feeling I shouldn’t have even started. Then I just flipped out. I’m still a little shakey, and I feel sick, but I’m okay. I just can’t get the images out of my head.

I was meant to keep this under Anon, I didn’t want people to know it was me complaining again. But I forgot to click the Anon box to reply. Ugh, I’m so out of it.

You have every right to complain if you want to, if people don’t like it that is their problem.
I can’t even begin to imagine what that must be like for you.

Hi Grace, I think sometimes you can’t help yourself reading things like that, even when you know it will upset you, especially if you have personal experience that is similar in some way. It’s almost like your brain is telling you that it might, in some way, help you, perhaps to know you’re not the only one suffering, or maybe to see if there are other ways to cope that you weren’t aware of. This must be a very difficult time for you (all the time must be difficult). Perhaps (if you want) talking about some happy memories you have would help you to refocus away from the accident and flashbacks. We’re here if you want to talk hun. x
